Holiday sabotage... ffs

We're on our holiday, arrived 3 o'clock this afternoon. Villa with our own pool in Greece (it's a last minute budget blower as my mum died a few weeks ago, I helped nurse her at home and the last 18 months have been shit. I've been holding it together until we arrived).

Villa is beautiful, In the space of just a few hours my DS has managed to vomit in the pool (he was pissing about trying to hold his breath underwater, swallowed some, then spewed crisps and sweets in it). We've removed the larger chunks, but somehow is not quite as appealing as it was.

Then, DH (the ever hapless) managed too blow all the electrics by pissing about with the fuse box, trying to turn on the pool lights, just as I'd almost finished dinner. Frantic phonecalls ensued to the owner and we're back online (and boy, the pool does look all vomity with the lights on!).

I could bloody cry, I really could and may yet have that breakdown that I've been trying to avoid. Anyone else's family intent on ruining what should be a nice time?

Oh darling. Get yourself a large drink and send DH and DS to the local shops tomorrow. Tell them to buy sieves and buckets and if they can, thin muslin type material plus some Greek version of Dettol.

In the morning get DH and DS to walk either side of the pool (in the water) whilst stretching the material to catch bits. Empty into bucket and repeat. If you can’t get fabric them a couple of t-shirts will do.

Drink more alcohol and tell yourself that this holiday will go down in family history and you’ll all laugh at it in the near future.

Make sure you have naps too.

If the pool is chlorinated it'll be grand. Great advice from the previous poster about how to clean it.
For tonight, have wine, put your feet up. Cry if you need to. Look after yourself.

AveABanana · 26/08/2018 20:16

All they do in the council pool when someone chucks is fish the bits out and throw more chemicals in.

Do that and throw more alcohol down your throat.

Flyingpompom · 26/08/2018 20:17

Meant to add Flowers
Sorry for your loss.

crazycolour · 26/08/2018 20:17

Shit. Sorry op. Wine

Slurpy · 26/08/2018 20:19

Thank you QueenArseClangers - loving your practical idea about the pool cleaning, I'll do just that.
Also, the advice of a drink and naps, will do that do!

May tomorrow be brighter! I had an hours sleep last night, so it's not helped my sense of perspective!

Wine seems to be the consensus. I have beer, and I'm unwisely eyeing up the homemade raki that the owner had left us. And i feel better after a vent.

FlowersWineCake
Ask the host to sort it out. No get your DH to do it.
Greek people are Uber helpful and great hosts, they I’ll sort it for you x

Oh, god, you poor thing.

I would be furious with Ds and DH. Tell Ds no more pratting about and no more sweets /crisps / crap before swimming!

Hopefully the filters and chemicals overnight will help a lot.

So sorry for what you have been coping with and hope you manage to relax properly soon.

gamerwidow · 26/08/2018 20:28

Good advice on here. Have rest tonight. By the end of the holiday you’ll all be laughing about this and it’ll be a family legend.

Slurpy · 27/08/2018 07:36

Morning!

Well, I've slept, the pool looks cleaner today (thanks to the filter I presume) and DH has taken the kids of to find the local bakery. I have coffee Brew and the world seems brighter.

Much appreciated the sympathy and advice last night - thank you Flowers

QueenArseClangers · 29/08/2018 16:42

Hooray! Get that raki down yer. If it’s homemade it’ll only be about 80% proof Grin
Yamas!
