Are these any good? They look awesome but I've seen some slightly concerning reviews about safety. My dd is 8 and it would be for her.

My dh and dc all snorkel and this year we are on holiday where the sealife is amazing (tropical fish and reef) so i really didnt want to miss out. I bought one from Amazon (around £20 ish). Don't laugh but I did fill the bath, stick my head in and test it in there first to check it had an effective seal!

It is fantastic and I have spent so much time using it - worth every penny and would have missed out on a brilliant experience.

There are different sizes, I assume you can buy them from a number of places but on Amazon you could order different sizes by measuring distance from bridge of nose to chin (I think) and the straps on the back are adjustable so you can get a snug fit. Also make sure stray wisps of hair are out of the way when she puts it on to help with the seal. Good luck - definately try one!

Thanks! We'll be near the reef too, although I'm not sure we'll manage to get dd out of the pool :-)

I think once she has seen a few tropical fish around her you will struggle getting her out of the sea. I know I'm not keen on getting out...Blush. I am a nervous swimmer in the sea hence my previous non-snorkelling status but love it now.

Just back from Spain and plenty of people used them there. You can get them in Decathlon - go and try some!

I prefer the standard goggles - I think the full face mask would feel too restrictive. Maybe try a few and see what suits.

I love snorkelling. Lucky you!! Enjoy!!! Where are you going?

MacavityTheDentistsCat · 26/08/2018 12:38

My daughter (aged 12) has one. She finds it great but says it can get slightly claustrophobic after half an hour or so. She also prefers a normal snorkel in deeper water as she says the fullface one is too hard to get back on when treading water in flippers in rougher waves.

scothols · 26/08/2018 12:41

They are brilliant BUT decathlon who were first to bring out the modern versions don't recommend them for kids under 10.

WHAT SIZE EASYBREATH SHOULD I CHOOSE?
The Easybreath is available in 2 sizes which cover 90% of faces. Children aged over 10, teenagers and women should opt for the S/M size, and men for the M/L size. To choose the right size in store, tighten the mask so that it fits against your face. There should be no gap between your chin and the bottom of the mask. My son used one at 10 but preferred a normal mask in the end

Justmuddlingalong · 26/08/2018 12:41

I had one, tried it numerous times, then gave it away. I found it claustrophobic. I've gone back to a snorkel and goggles.

EricNorthmanIsMine · 26/08/2018 12:59

I have one and it's fantastic, it gets much less 'foggy' than my old goggle mask and it's very comfy. I've used it in 2 sea snorkel locations so far and it's coming away with me again this year Smile

Stupomax · 26/08/2018 13:51

We have one - no one really likes it. The prefer a normal mask and snorkel.

bert3400 · 26/08/2018 13:55

My son has one , he is 9. He absolutely loves it and it's given him a full appreciation of our beautiful oceans. He now just wants to go snorkeling 😁. We got a s/m from decathlon, worth the £25

Ihavenoideaatall · 26/08/2018 13:56

My 7 year old got one from aldi. It says adults only but he uses it in the pool/loch fine. I quite like it too.

Eponymous · 27/08/2018 04:09

Ok cool thanks for all that.
If I do get her one, I'll make sure I bring the backup normal masks too.

@spottybetty we're going to Queensland for Christmas.

We have them and love them, used many many times! Just remember to take earrings out before you put it on though, mine ripped the stud out of my ear Shock the straps are pretty tight to keep the seal.
