Nursery for social skills...

I'm a SAHM and we're looking at putting our nearly 2 year old in nursery for 12 hours a week purely for developing social skills and independence.

Mentioned this to my parents and they were shocked that we are planning to do this when I'm home anyway. We also have a newborn that would be with me all the time.

I never went to anything with children my own age as a kid and have always struggled socially, even now as an adult. Dc is very social now and I don't want that to stop.

Surely it's only a good thing for dc's development? Is it really that odd to put dc in nursery a few hours a week when I'm home?

Just wanted to add, there's not many toddler play groups around here. Only classes that are 50 minutes long for about £7 a pop. We go to a few of these a week but I'm always with dc for these.

My 3 year old did 2 mornings a week from her 2nd birthday. She loved it, I got a few hours a week to have a breather (I also have another pre schooler (4) who did 15 hours at nursery)... everyone’s a winner.
