Namechanged as I've also posted my drawing on a FB group!

We're in SE England and looking for some basic landscaping- see my to scale drawing !

Back of the garden is trees which we want to keep in for privacy, decking is staying. Garden is currently patchy grass and an old concrete path to the side of the decking/side access.

We want the path relaid as paving and an (approx) 9sqm paves area for the kid's playhouse. Rest of the garden in lazy lawn (I know, bad for bees etc but we need low maintenance). Total paving area is about 15sqm and lawn is 36sqm.

We will be doing all the borders ourselves so have just asked for quotes for paving and lawn installation.

Had a quote from a local landscaping company... £8,000! We had expected it to be around half that amount BlushSad was really hoping to get it down before the spring- assuming that we might get a better deal 'out of season'; apparently not!

We got a quote for our fairly standard, not at all big, although comparatively long and skinny. Our house is a long rectangular shape and the garden is mainly in shade and in the winter it sits in water and becomes a bog.

On a special offer it was 13.6k Shock

No we didn’t go ahead!

Shock maybe £8k is a bargain.

In which case it can stay as a patchy mess!

I would say thats about right. We've just had a 16m2 patio laid for £3750 . Add in the astro turf, 8K sounds pretty good to me.

@Lordofmyflies where in the country are you? £235 per sq metre just seems crazy. 😳

I'm thinking we'll learn to do it ourselves at this rate.

In th SW. I got 3 quotes and that was the cheapest.

Lordofmyflies · 26/08/2018 13:25

.. Also depends massively on your slabs. We used sandstone which was not a cheap option! Builder and his labourer charged £250 a day and it took 4 days so £1000 for labour and the rest materials.

TheBitterBoy · 26/08/2018 13:28

That sounds about right to me too. Am in SE too and have been quoted similar amounts for a smaller job than that - laying turf and little hard landscaping, so would expect your plans to be at least what you've been quoted.

ImNotAFlower · 26/08/2018 13:51

We are having ours done in SE we have brought the grass on line with Lazeelawn and have got a local builder doing the work. Our grass was £600 and the builder is charging £1500 for labour/material/waster disposal.
Builder did my friends a year ago and they have had no problems with it at all.

EchidnasPhone · 26/08/2018 13:54

That would be high in Edinburgh from our quotes of Astro which was £80 per sq meter and that was all Labour & hardcore etc.
