Taking DC away on your own - what works best for you?

Have taken 3 DC abroad by myself for the first time. It has been a struggle if I’m honest. Some awful behaviour from them at the start (they were tired after having been away with their dad the previous week, so next year, if I can face taking them away, I will make sure the trips are spread out) that has petered out into occasional bickering and whining. They are 12, 11 and 8. We are s/c in French holiday park with fab pool which they have loved.

I am not in tears as much as last week but still promising myself twice a day that I am never doing this again. To be fair, it is 18 months post-split, my emotions are pretty low still and I always thought we would do this sort of holiday together.

What have been your easiest, most like an actual holiday solo trips with DC?

My daughters (both under 8) and I went to a lovely all inclusive for a week in July. We had a fantastic time and the ‘yes’ nature of all inclusive really helped I think! They were absolutely thrilled to spend all day every day by the pool. Cruises are fab for children your kids age but tend to be very expensive. Sorry to hear you didn’t have a great trip.

Thanks Cat - would you be able to PM me the details of the AI please? Never tried one.

I only have one child which is much easier than 3 but AI package is the way to go for me. So much easier for when DS is endlessly requesting drinks/ice creams/snacks and I don't have to be trekking to the shops and restaurants all the time. I also let him bring the ipad for the plane and transfers to keep him quiet for a bit. We go on day trips as well and he really enjoys them.

I love holidays abroad with him. Been on 4 so far and going on our 5th in December.

I think I might love holidays with just one child Grin

Recommendation for nice AIs then please?

Need to book soon as gets full fast and is expensive, but...! Aqua fantasy in kusadasi. AI, water park practically on site with unlimited access and beach other side. Best place for kids as a single parent I've found esp as mine was too old for kids club. She spent a week on water slides and eating unlimited ice cream. I read like 8 books.
