Is this chicken pox

Ds had been warm and a bit off since Thursday. He'd been choking on mucus I think and was sick after retching so sent home from childcare. Anyway on Friday I notice a pinprick rash all over nappy area and torso. Friday morning he has a large blister spot on his shin and several spots on his ears and under his mouth. A few other spots randomingly...one on chest, forehead wrist etc.
Take him to chemist and she calls it pox as blistered. Hes back to normal by this point... running around etc.
Today I was expecting more pox but there aren't. He does have a blister on his tongue so I'm not wondering if it's had foot and mouth. No temp anymore. No spots on hands or feet though.

If his pin prick rash is non-blanching than you need to take him to doctor. Not something to be overly worried about but he could have HSP which is an autoimmune reaction to a virus and needs to be checked out (my son had this). If the rash is non-blanching its likely to be linked to his cold - my son regularly came out in rashes after viruses and it was often a sign the virus was almost gone. My son had hand, foot and mouth disease 3 times. There are two strains of it. He didn't always have a temperature, was often well in himself and didn't always have the blisters on his hands, feet and mouth. First time it was only on his feet - last time only in his mouth at first and then feet a few days later. All three times diagnosed by doctor. Although given your son has other spots randomly than its definately not hand, foot and mouth - these spots only appear in mouth and soles of hand and feet.
My son is so rashy that trips to the dermatologist is not uncommon...a few of them recommended this website to me to help work out his rashes! www.dermnetnz.org

Sorry cross posted with the pic - looks like chicken pox to me but that's something my son has not had.

I think it looks like chicken pox, they can take days to come out then suddenly they are covered in them.

KimberlyS2 · 26/08/2018 07:39

It doesn’t look like chicken pox that I’ve seen. My daughter had it in March and there were 8 children with it in her room at nursery. She started with 1 blister on her neck then they kept appearing till they scabbed over, they didn’t go like the one in your picture.

Mammaof · 26/08/2018 08:19

Yes @kimberlyS2 always started with a blister in my experience of having children and being a nursery nurse

My toddler currently has hand foot and mouth and is covered in blisters Sad his bum is covered in them and then he has random ones like your picture all over

YoloThankfully · 26/08/2018 08:25

He's been diagnosed by a doctor so it definitely can spread other places, not just hands feet and mouth. He has none in his mouth. He has had no temperature either and is Just a bit grumpy. She said I was the 4th person with a child diagnosed with it this week.

That looks like chickenpox. DS2 had it just before the school holidays.

I see the doctor has confirmed hfm. My kids and I have had both. One way of telling them apart is chickenpox itches but the spots from hfm are sore in my experience.
