Urgh I'm so going to get no sleep tonight

I'm pretty sure I'm gonna get no sleep tonight. The hmo across the road from us seem to be having a party. Our bedroom faces the front with single glazed windows. I'm a light sleeper at the best of times. These youngsters seem to using the street as an overspill/smoking area and they are of course getting louder as the night goes on and obviously get more drunk AngrySad

Are they in the street?

firehousedog1 · 25/08/2018 23:26

Yes.

Oh I feel for you! Sad may be worth ringing 101 after midnight?

firehousedog1 · 25/08/2018 23:29

What can the police possibly do about it? There doesn't seem to be any crime being committed that I can think of.

Singlenotsingle · 25/08/2018 23:29

Can't you set up a bed at the back of the house?

SneakyGremlins · 25/08/2018 23:31

Nuisance? Disturbing the peace? Potential damage if they start smashing things?

firehousedog1 · 25/08/2018 23:31

Not really. The ground floor is an open plan living room/kitchen and ds room and bathroom face the back. Our room faces the front.

Is disturbing peace a crime? I dunno is it?

We also have a party somewhere near - I can hear (it's loud) but can't see it.

I reckon they're ok until midnight...

ByeGermsByeWorries · 25/08/2018 23:39

We have a few HMOs opposite in our terraced street and the parties are horrendous. Speeding up and down the street, screaming, shouting, fighting amongst themselves, smashing bottles, pissing and vomiting all over the place. Leaning on people's cars. Last summer someone had sex in our car port Envy(vom) It's so bad we plan to move away in the next month.

101 tell us to call the council. Council tell us to call 101.

firehousedog1 · 25/08/2018 23:41

Who is 101?

CrazyDaisy2018 · 25/08/2018 23:45

Sorry OP. It's awful when people are so inconsiderate. I know it may only be one night, but it's one night of stress, exhaustion and anger.

One of our neighbours has had a marquee built in their back garden today so we're expecting a party of some sort tomorrow.

They best not be too noisy, too late, or they'll be getting my revenge in the form of me going round and banging on their door at 6am when they're asleep!

If it gets really bad check your local council website for what to do about noise nuisance. Ours has an out of hours number, which when I called it one weekend (local job centre alarm going off ALL weekend) I discovered what actually a shortcut to the local police!

whattimeislove · 25/08/2018 23:46

101 is the non-emergency police number

firehousedog1 · 25/08/2018 23:48

OK. I'm gonna give them till 1am I think they call this 101. I was really looking forward to a nice sleep tonight aswell Sad

Are they drinking in the street?

lastqueenofscotland · 25/08/2018 23:51

IME the police tend not to respond to nose complaints unless there’s suggestion there’s violence/drugs with it

LexieLulu · 25/08/2018 23:54

I'd call now, it's anti sociable behaviour. As it's not an urgent call it might take them a while to respond so dong wait till 1am xx

firehousedog1 · 25/08/2018 23:54

They take drinks out with them when they go out to smoke yes.

That's the thing. I dont think police really go to tell a party to keep the noise down.

The police don’t have the power to do anything according to my local police force in Manchester. I rang once and they were lovely but told me they had no power to stop anything like that.

The next day I contacted the environmental health people at the council and they were brilliant. Told me others had already complained and gave me a number to call anytime and they’d come and sort out the problem.

firehousedog1 · 25/08/2018 23:57

They are singing happy birthday to someone now. They've gone inside now admittably but I could still hear that.

nocoolnamesleft · 26/08/2018 00:10

Could be worse. I've seen a massive spider in my bedroom. Would it be overreacting to burn the house down?

whattimeislove · 26/08/2018 00:11

We have "blame it on the boogie" here...

whattimeislove · 26/08/2018 00:22

I'm guessing I can't complain to anyone if I don't know exactly which house it is??

It's the fucking Macarena now

firehousedog1 · 26/08/2018 00:24

Your next door party seems to have awful taste in music Confused you could probably find the house if you went for a five minute walk.

whattimeislove · 26/08/2018 00:30

I think it's the road behind me. I'm in bed (and recovering from injury) so much as I'd like to know, I'm not going out!!
