Adding to mortgage for home improvement?

We're likely to need a new boiler in the next year or 2, and I would love a new kitchen (ours been here since house built about 15 years ago). House worth about 250k, 125k outstanding on mortgage, lots of years to go (15?). Any idea how much v roughly it works cost for us to add about 15k to mortgage?? And how do you go about it? Is it just a case of going to current lender and asking??

You will be able to get a mortgage calculator online to work it out. Halifax has one on their website for instance.
Why not use a mortgage broker to make life easier, we always use one, he's great.

When is your current mortgage deal up?

Ginmakesitallok · 25/08/2018 10:18

We're just on standard rate - probably need to revisit that (we've never changed it)

You're probably paying far more than you need to! Get yourself a mortgage broker and they'll sort it out, mine even gets in touch when our current deal is ending. He's paid by the bank for bringing them custom - no cost to us.

The difference between our current deal and standard rate is £200/£300 per month.

Jeesy peeps - an hour and a half later.... Looks like we could switch calls and get 15k extra for about £6 a month....
