What can I do to make a grand between now and mid October? I can't do any extra hours at work so need to be creative.

(This isn't a begging post by the way, im not in any sort of trouble, i have money for food and mortgage and bills, just booked something and didn't realise they payments where scheduled so soon, and I don't want to cancel it so trying to think of ways to make it work)

Weekend event work? Car boot sale? Babysitting? You have about 7 weeks so that's a fair bit of extra income to find per week.

Any chance you can take a payment break in your mortgage?

Cut back on expenditure drastically, especially food and entertainment.

Sell items on eBay/ car boot sales

Get a pastime job, barmaid, waitress, market stall helper, cleaner, dog walker, baby sitter, life model.

Take out a loan with your bank.

Ebay - I made a few thousand last year selling tons of dd's old clothes (which I've hoarded since she was born!) in bundles and my own in bundles. Also sold my fancy smartphone and am making do with a very cheap alternative. Sold some consoles from the house and now we have a ps3 only.

Cancel any contracts you can get out of. I don;t have a TV package. We have Netflix only. Don't need to pay TV licence either for this.

I have a pay as you go sim and don't use it much.

Don't have any pricey contracts actually anymore.

Look at your essentials budget. Can it be trimmed anywhere? Can you remove some treats from your usual shopping trolley each month to save some money? Might be boring for a while but it's only til October.

Don't spend anything on 'extras'. All days out/evenings out need to be free.

Only use the car when necessary to save on fuel costs.

Your best bet might be to get a second job if possible (however, this doesn't always mean an increase in income due to the implications for any tax credits you might be claiming and you'll also pay additional tax and NI).

Last resort would be to borrow from friends or family and arrange repayments from OCT.

Absolute last resort would be to put the installments for this thing onto a credit card.

Matched betting. Easy to learn just dont go off piste and gamble...

Are any banks offering incentives to change your account? Sometimes they can be quite substantial.

TroubledLichen · 24/08/2018 21:53

Agency work for cleaning/casual waitressing staff. Babysitting.

Have a clear out and sell anything decent on eBay, car boot for anything else.

Look to cut back on tv subscriptions, switch energy providers. Change your current account if there are any offers around (you can sometimes make a few £100 at a time).

0% credit card as long as you’re confident you can pay it back.

Sell things on Shpock/eBay

I’ll second matched betting - signed up to profit accumulator two weeks ago - approx £400 up already - is a bit time consuming and scary to get in to the swing of it, but very do-able!

Also eBay/ FB selling pages anything not used any more.

Gumtree for anything a bit more pricey :)

air bnb a spare room.
Definitely selling stuff on Facebook selling sites.
car boot.

A friend of mine has made about £5500 over 6 weeks for being a Guinea pig for a pharmacy company. I'm not sure it's something I would do, but maybe an option? I think you have to go to hospital a few times though so would only work if you could get off work a bit.

AskingForAnEnemy · 25/08/2018 12:30

Thanks for the replies. There's a car boot sale on Monday so I've been in touch and have got a place on it, hopefully can sell some stuff

Can somebody explain in simple terms what exactly matched betting is?

Considering putting an ad on gum tree and offering cleaning services or dog walking, but do people still use gum tree these days?
