How to help DH build a network of dads

DH hasn't really made any dad friends. In truth neither of us are overly sociable but I've established a group of "mum friends" across DD's nursery years.

DD has just started P1 and DH would like to build a network but doesn't know how to go about it. My friends' partners haven't gelled as a group either and there don't seem to be the same obvious ins. It probably doesn't help that he feels quite old compared to the others (he's 50 this year).

Whilst he is obviously a grown up and this is his problen, I'd like to try to help him / point him in the right direction. Does anyone have any tips / ideas for how he might engage with other dads - maybe something he could spearhead with the school / PTA?

What about helping at a extra curricular activity? I know a couple of dads who volunteer at their children's rugby team and they seems to have a friendship group of dads.
