Recurring tonsillitis

My daughter (3) has tonsillitis for the third time in as many months. She has had antibiotics for the last two bouts and I just got some more for this bout. It comes on very quickly, she was fine this morning and by lunchtime it's roaring temperature, listless with white spots on her tonsils. My question is should I keep giving her antibiotics or should I try and nurofen through it without them? I generally hate antibiotics and never take them myself. But I can't bear to see her suffer. Any advice from anyone with similar?

If she is clearly in pain with it I would give her paracetamol and ibuprofen and the antibiotics. As someone who suffered repeatedly throughout childhood with tonsillitis, the antibiotics didn't do me any harm. By the time I hit 21 my tonsils were pulled.

I had this with my son when he was 2. I finally saw a good GP who said it was likely that the frequency was caused by the original ‘infection’ not clearing. She gave us a longer dosage of antibiotics.

In addition told us to give him a bio yogurt each day and put tuberic into as much of his food as possible.

Hasn’t had it since then.

Hoping your DD gets well soon.

They need the antibiotics for tonsillitis, definitely give them. My ds is 5 and suffers with it a lot.
