Diamond Painting

Anyone else tried this? It’s now my slightly sad evening hobby.
Basically you get a sticky grid - almost like paint by numbers - and you use a little pen tool and stick on the corresponding colour of plastic ‘diamond’
I realise it’s no work of art, but I can do it without concentrating and I’m trying to have a break from being on my iPad all evening!

I haven't tried it, is it fun? I wouldn't want the finished product though, would others want it?

Catfacecats · 24/08/2018 19:35

It’s definitely fun, but I think the finished products will be stuck on the kids walls Grin It’s cheap - I was £6 from amazon, but you get cheaper from EBay from China.

It’s definitely not something I’d make for gifts or selling.

Might give it a go then, I can see the appeal of it. I also like knitting but don't actually like knitted items so just give them to charity.

Thanks for this idea. I've just bought this owl one as a trial. Went for a super cheap one to start with and if it's fun, I'll get one of the more expensive ones. Some of them look stunning.

I bought one of these for my partner as a cheap random gift, it was about 30 p or something off amazon. I was surprised that he really loved doing it, it was a massive hit! He's bought loads more now and does a bit every day, he says it's very relaxing. I wouldn't know as I'm not allowed to touch it :D

Catfacecats · 24/08/2018 21:07

It is relaxing :) I do cross stitch too, but that requires a bit more concentration.

Buy yourself one Jovail.

I’ve already got my friend hooked on them

I’ve bought some Disney princess ones, didn’t realise you could get them cheap though! I got suckered in through an offer on Facebook. Just waiting for them to turn up. I got Disney ones so they can go on dds wall after I’m done with them. She loves sparkly princess crap!

I love that owl Ruby! This is my one when complete

Yes love it! Finished this one recently and it is one of three similar Zelda ones.

Am I missing something here - searched ebay, amazon etc and they all seem linked to cross-stitch sets? Just looking for the sticky jewels to make pictures (cheap for crafty kids!!!)

Catfacecats · 24/08/2018 21:53

Some say 5D cross stitch - I think it gets a little lost in translation! The jewels aren’t sticky though, the printed pattern is.

It's also known as diamond dotz if you're searching for kits.

Becca19962014 · 24/08/2018 22:24

They look best with a bit of distance - a friend spent a year doing the nativity and it looks really impressive on her wall, less so up close as you can see the dotz. Shes doing another at the moment which isn't all diamond dotz. Some of it is a picture.

I can't manage it as I don't have the dexterity anymore, I did try! I know they vary hugely in quality as well as price apparently.
