Motorways tomorrow

Would we be mad to travel down to Bristol on the M5 tomorrow? We'd need to go from just south of Birmingham. Normally it takes us 1hr 15/20 or so.

Really want to take advantage of the last weekend before DS goes back to school and have a day out together. But we have a little baby too so really don't fancy getting caught in traffic jams.

Is it likely to be horribly busy? If I check the traffic before we go, it should be fine right? I know it's a weekend when people go away, but I reckon most people will go tonight. Or will tomorrow be a day for loads of families to head down to Devon and Cornwall? DH thinks I'm mad. I don't think it'll be too bad.....

Do not do it! I use the M5 every day- getting into Bristol on Bank holiday weekend will be an absolute nightmare! Can imagine it taking hours and hours Confused

@Eminybob I think you'll be fine by afternoon- I live down that way and would expect traffic to be rubbish until 2pmish.

According to Sally Traffic on Radio 2 just now, the queue is already from J15 (Bristol Filton) to J20 (Clevedon).

Google maps says my work (5 mins from J19, Portishead) to home (500 metres from Weston-super-Mare beach) journey would take 50 minutes if I was doing it now (usual time 25 mins).
