Moving next week - how to prep DS (3)

We're moving house next week, just round the corner from where we are now.

We have started talking about this to our 3 year old son, how he's going to have a lovely new room, with a big bed and we've been trying to get him involved in making his room his own, but he throws a tantrum when we mention the house. He's always had trouble dealing with change, but he's been getting a lot better the past few months, but this seems to be a biggie.

Just now I suggested we go over to bring round some boxes and to put the Planes name doorsticker on his bedroom door, but he just started to shout and throw things.

We've been reading a book about moving to him, but he's refused to read this the last week as well.

What can we do, so we don't have the meltdown apocalypse on Wednesday when we will have moved in? Any good tips? We have a new bit for his trainset we're planning on having out when he comes home after nursery on moving day, but not sure it'll be enough to get him all excited about the new house.

There are some Topsy and Tim episodes on CBeebies about moving house?
Best of luck x

Get him something specially for his new room- name sign or wall art.
My DD moved when she was 3 and we got her a fabric bunting with her name on - she loves it!

Thanks!

AEFT, that's a good tip. We have some Hey Duggee stuff we wanted to frame, but maybe we should do that before we move and hang it up.

DD (5) doesn't want to move, now that she's getting a 'flamingo bedroom' she can't wait to go!

Read a book or two but don't overthink it, they really won't mind. We moved 6000 miles, they really didn't care that much as soon as I said they could have bunk beds!

DS1 and DS2 were 5 and 3 last time we moved. They had a shared dolls' house. We borrowed a second dolls' house from a friend, and played 'moving house'. A lot. It seemed to help.

just to check that he knows that all his stuff ( and you!) are moving too?

he will get it in the end. good luck in your new home!
