A wwyd about lost expensive earring

My dd was 21 a few months ago and she was working abroad at the time. She came back home a few days ago and her best friend's mum (my close friend) came round today with some beautiful Tiffany earrings. We were out at the time but she left them on the kitchen counter. When we opened them there was only one earring in the box. The other is definitely not here. We have checked everywhere and it can't have fallen out. It's such a difficult situation now. We've known this friend since dd was 5 and it was such a generous present and so lovely of her to buy them. What should we do? We need to phone to thank her and we don't want to lie to her. That being said, does telling her solve anything? Would you want to know in this situation?

I’d tell her tbh, it could be that she’s never opened the box and had no idea.

She’d also probably notice if your DD never wore them.

And yes, I’d definitely want to know in her position.

Ask her! *if she opened them she can search those places plus cardigan or coat sleeves and pockets. If she didn't she can contact the shop

🤣 That's really strange. Why would they not put it in a single earring box???

YeTalkShiteHen · 23/08/2018 20:42

Eh? Is that a new fashion?

purplecorkheart · 23/08/2018 20:44

A single earring? Lol finally I am on trend, I seem to lose a earring regularly so now I finally have a use for the other one.

w4ytoomuch · 23/08/2018 20:49

PHEW!!!!

MerryInthechelseahotel · 23/08/2018 20:52

Grin who would have known! It was in a little bag then a box but no sign of it being single! We are so glad we didn't ring her to say how lovely the earrings were Grin the reason we looked on line was to see if we could afford to be a replacement.

Is it one of the Paloma Picasso ones? They’re sold singly but the idea is that buy a mixed or matching pair. Will your DD wear it?

Whatsthisbear · 23/08/2018 20:54

I had to google- which one was it? Love, arrow, hugs & kisses or something else?
Can not believe £120 for a single earring Shock

MerryInthechelseahotel · 23/08/2018 21:21

It is that one Whatsthis It looks stunning on actually. So kind of her! I'd better start saving for her dd's birthday
