Is the West side of anything always better? (lighthearted)

So i'm musing about life and suddenly it strikes me that a lot of 'west side' things seem to be better than the other parts.....or is it?

West Dundee is better than North and East Dundee
West of England is richer than the North (in term of prospects)
West facing gardens are better than North, east and South (more sunshine
The ‘West end’ is more exciting than other parts of London
The Western part of the world is more developed than other parts.
West London is richer than other parts of London
West Korea is better than North Korea
West Germany was better than East Germany
Western Zimbabwe hosts some of the countries best tourist attractions.

Please help prove or disprove my theory by adding on your own West's that are better than..(it can be the west of anything).

In Britain prevailing winds come from the west so when there wasn’t sanitation west sides were more fragrant.

Abra1de · 23/08/2018 19:39

Sorry, cross posted.

East 17 were better than Westlife
No they weren't, evidenced by their short life span

Quality over quantity.

brokenharbour · 23/08/2018 19:47

Well, you learn something new every day. That's really interesting.

RSTera · 23/08/2018 19:55

The South West is unimaginably better than the South East.

WomanWise · 23/08/2018 19:57

RS -SouthWest of where?

West Life better than East 17 yes.

WomanWithAltitude · 23/08/2018 20:14

As other have said, it's because the prevailing wind in the UK is from the west. The posh bits of towns wouldn't get built downwind of the smelly industrial areas (e.g. tanneries) or slums in the same towns.

Middleclassmnetter · 23/08/2018 20:14

Wirral peninsula: the East side contains one of the most deprived areas of the country, whilst the West has a couple of very very affluent neighbourhoods.

South West of England! I have lived in both.

WoollyMollyMonkey · 23/08/2018 20:29

East 17 ?? Aren’t they those idiots who don’t know how to put a hat on the right way round?

LemonRedwood · 23/08/2018 20:34

John West tuna is better than tesco value

BikeRunSki · 23/08/2018 20:42

West End in Edinburgh, Glasgow and Dundee are all lovely compared to the other side of the cites

Sheffield too, largely. Hallamshire Ward (SW Sheffield) has something like the second highest average disposable income in the UK.

WomanWise · 23/08/2018 20:47

Western Turkey is more developed than Eastern Turkey, with higher salaries, better infrastructure, more middle classes and more tourists.

Whaaaaat?! I'd have Broughty Ferry over the Perth Road any day! I suppose it wasn't originally part of Dundee but it's where all the mill owners built their mansions then they went to the west to build their mills.

DianaT1969 · 23/08/2018 21:04

^life is peaceful there
(Go west) in the open air
(Go west) where the skies are blue
(Go west) this is what we're gonna do
(Go west, this is what we're gonna do, go west)^

The Pet Shop Boys like the west.

SuperstarDJ · 23/08/2018 21:41

The West in my City is considered to be the worst area and there’s some parts that I wouldn’t venture anywhere near. In fact it has the nickname, ‘The Wild West’.

Oldraver · 23/08/2018 21:51

There used to be a 'Westend' in the town I grew up in and it was the worst most deprived area

FringeGoer2018 · 23/08/2018 21:57

West of Wolverhampton infinitely nicer than East side.

WallisFrizz · 23/08/2018 22:00

The West Midlands kicks the ass of the East Midlands.
