I just smelled my first coal fire I’d the autumn

Driving home I passed a cottage with lovely coal fire smoke in the air. It’s one of my favourite smells.

Oh I love the smell of a coal fire. Well tbh I prefer the smell of woodsmoke, but coal fires really take me back to being a child again, walking through my hometown in the eighties, the sky a lead grey, and it being so cold!

It is such a memory- inspiring retro smell of childhood.

But its not autumn!!! Its summer first coal fire maybe but it is not autumn

First of the second half of the year.

It's autumn in Scotland, the leaves are starting to turn

The leaves are turning because the trees have been stressed this summer due to the lack of moisture. It's not Autumn. The Earth hasn't travelled far enough along it's orbit to be Autumn in Scotland yet. 23rd of Sep for the Equinox this year, I think.

It feels Autumnal though. It's been cold and wet and the leaves are definitely changing colour. DD1 has worn tights to school.

We've had our heating on this week, its quite cool here 14 degrees, feels like autumn in Scotland!
