Part time - short days or long days

I’m in a bit of a dilemma and would like some opinions . I currently work 18 hours am thinking of changing my 3 shorter days to do two longer days 8-6 . There are lots of factors to consider as dd1 has just started school and I also have dd2 who is a toddler . After doing three short days for a while now I’m considering dropping one and doing two longer days . Does anyone do this or have any experience?

I do this but 4 days over 3 days. Things to consider are childcare and childcare costs? I actually prefer working longer days and then having full days off as I can relax and spend more quality time with DCs. But I have DH and family who cover childcare. If that wasn't the case, I would do more school pick ups and spread the hours across the week.

I prefer shorter days so that I can collect the DC from school. And after school I have time to take them to various activities/supervise homework/cook tea.

DH finishes early one of the days and my DO can do drop off and pick up the other with DH normally finishing around 4pm . I can't currently do pick ups on the days that I work. So I would get an extra day I'm around . Just a bit worried about not getting home until 6.30 however with school traffic i don't get home until 4:50pm

I've done both. I do 26 hpw and used to do 3 x 9 hour days when DS was at nursery. Now he's at school I do the same hours over 5 days (basically I work school hours), and revert to the 3 day pattern in the school hols to help with childcare cover.

Although I do the same hours, I preferred the 3 day pattern really as it felt as though I had more free time. I do appreciate I'm lucky to have the flexibility to work both patterns now though.
