That microwave poached egg recipe

at the bottom of the page - well it has been taunting me for a few days now so I thought I would try it.

I ended up with a bit of slightly rubbery white, a hard yolk and some snot.

Not sure I will bother again. I have tried the poachie bags, the silicon boob shaped things, and in the past, the pans with little sections in, poachies gave me a bag of watery snot, silicon things a container of watery snot, pans a solid circle of rubber whereas I have finally mastered the vortex egg, but not the patience required to execute it.

I noticed the egg in the clip looked a bit snotty, does anyone know if they can be made without snot?

This came up on my fb page the other day... I've been so tempted by that egg too but usually end up making fried as I can do those to perfection. Grin

You don’t need to do the vortex thing or use any weird things. Just need VERY fresh eggs, simmering (not boiling!) water deep enough so the eggs won’t touch the bottom and a capful of vinegar to the water.

Bring water to the boil, turn down the heat so it’s bafelg simmering, break fresh eggs into a cup/ramekin. Place edge of ramekin as close to the water as possible and slowly slip the egg in. You can use a spoon to gently help the white stay close to the yolks. Once the white is sufficiently set you can turn up heat slightly and cook for 3 mins for a soft center, 4 or more for a harder set yolk.

Done!

I like the vortex thing though, and I can do it now, however I can't seem to cook a simple microwave egg ready in two minutes flat.

(I like swirling the water and slipping the egg in. Grin)

I do frying pan really boiling water no vinegar crack egg then turn down immediately to simmer. Not too shallow water.

Need fresh eggs and zero vinegar taste and the boiling helps it form shape.

Think it's a Mary Berry way...
