6 Week Check Ups After Baby - What Happens?

Hi guys,

Sorry to bother you all! I had my 6 week after delivery check up yesterday (Just mine, not baby's) with the Practice Nurse and it all seemed very quick and I was just wondering what everyone else's experiences were?

I had a failed induction which led to a c-section, generally I feel fine, I think I'm healing ok so I wasn't expecting a lot of fuss. But when I went to the appointment we basically had a five minute chat about vitamins, Book Bug sessions and how I'm adjusting to motherhood along side a blood pressure check. She didn't check my wound, take bloods like some of my friends said happened or go through a questionnaire about PND. Don't get me wrong the nurse was lovely but I can't help but feel my appointment was a bit rushed?

What are everyone else's experiences?

I had my c section scar checked and discussed contraception as well as a brief chat about how I was finding things.
I didn’t have a questionnaire about PND or bloods done although I think if they’d picked up an issue they would have done more. I think it’s the health visitor who does the PND check as they also did a 6 week check

I had mine last Friday, and like you had failed induction with c section, the only thing they really did was look at 2 concerns with baby and that was it, didn't look at scar or see how I am doing etc!

Did she not check the baby at all? I had a 8 week check with the gp but it was mainly for DS. He stripped him down and rotated his hips and checked his bits were ok (desended sp??)
I don't remember anything about vitamins and def. nothing about book bugs though.

For me he just skimmed through the pnd questionnaire and asked about contraception (Fairly straightforward birth).

Sorry just realised it was only for you - they just do one appointment in my bit of London!

At my practice they do an 8 week check to combine with baby's first jabs. It was a quick chat about how I'm coping followed by blood pressure, contraception chat then quick check of baby then jabs. Probably 10 min tops.

I had my 6w check with GP this week (baby has hers seperately at 8w along with her first vaccines).
We just had a chat about my experience of labour, my mood and contraception. No bp check or bloods etc.

I just had a joint one with DS as well. They checked DS over thoroughly, and asked me if I had any problems. I didn’t, but presumably if I had they would have paid attention.
