TMI questions about periods and tampons

Sorry!

I don’t have particularly heavy periods, but I find that every time I use a tampon, some blood kind of bypasses the tampon and leaks. So within an hour or so, the string starts to get a bit stained towards the top, or blood will come away on the paper once I’ve been to the loo. But if I was to remove the tampon at that point, it would be nowhere near saturated, and would in fact probably be uncomfortable to remove as it would be too dry. This happens regardless of what brand of tampon I use.

Does this happen to anyone else? Why is it happening? Am I anatomically incompatible with tampons?!

Yes, it happens to me too. For the first couple of days, I have to wear a liner as well as a tampon and it leaks nearly every time. I'm inserting them correctly as I can't feel them at all when they're in, I change them regularly and use the appropriate size. Weird!

Happened to me until I swapped to lillets applicator

Well, pleased to hear I’m not the only one! Interestingly, Olli, I was prompted to write this post after using Lillets applicator tampons for the first time, and it being worse than ever!!

Yes this happens to me too, irrespective of brand

Ooh that's interesting. My favourites are actually U by Kotex but not easy to find
I do prefer a mooncup

I have the same with applicator tampons, but not with non-applicator ones. I used to always use Tampax applicator and they seem to expand lengthways instead of widthways so would come out twice the length but the same width. Currently using Asda own non applicator and they expand widthways and I don't seem to have the same problem...
