Question about two potential temporary agency jobs and what the protocol is when

Not sure what I should do -

I have a temporary job (until at least October) starting on September 3rd, but dependent on my doing okay during the first trial week.

In the meantime I have heard from another agency which have a better paid and longer maternity cover job - also starting at the same time. For this they are at this stage only putting forward my CV for a possible interview next week.

Should I tell the first agency that this is what is happening, so that they have more time to find someone if I were to get the maternity cover?

However I might then end up with neither job?

What is the done thing - genuinely not sure.

Thanks Smile.

Tell neither agency of what's in the pipeline. If the better job comes through and you wnat to take it it do. Then tell agency No1.

It sounds harsh but this is what agencies are for

Keep schtum for now. Don't tell the agencies anything. They'd have no hesitation in screwing you over if something changed at their end (been there, done that!)

Thank you.

Have already made my first mistake then as I did tell the maternity cover agency that I had some temping in the pipeline but that their position was better (which it is), so to put me forward Blush.

The person on the phone was immediately trying to find out details re the temping position and where it was Hmm.

Feel bad for the first agency though.

They'll be used to it and won't expect you to hang on for a conditional temp job if something longer term comes along.
