Prices of flights to Spain in summer - how much to budget?

Thinking about going to somewhere in Spain next year in the summer holidays - how much should I budget for flights for a family of 4?

Ideally looking at Alicante / Almeria / Malaga.

If you have travelled to Spain this year how much did you pay and when did you book?

We booked about 3/4 months ago for this summer and paid £1850 Gatwick to Alicante with BA for a family of 5.

HolidayModeMum · 22/08/2018 21:41

Thanks - did that include any hold baggage / prebooked seats?

We fly to Alicante fairly often as the IL’s live there. We’ve never paid more than £600 for a family of 4, including baggage.

We fly cheapo airlines though... Ryanair, Jet2 etc.

I flew Easy Jet to Malaga in June last year. We booked as soon as the fights were released and paid about £100 each.

We paid £510 for 4 seats (2 adults, 2 kids & 1 infant) to Palma, Mallorca this August with easyjet. 2 x 23kg hold bags. Booked last November.

CakeNinja · 22/08/2018 21:51

One hold bag of 23kg and we took 2 hand luggage plus one handbag.
Didn’t prebook seats.

SoyDora · 22/08/2018 21:52

Our £600 maximum includes 2 hold bags of 22kg and pre booked seats.

Thanks, that is very helpful. I was hoping to get the flights for under £800 which sounds like it should be doable if I book early.

We paid £1k for 4 to Malaga last summer, we booked fairly late with Easyjet though. We've previously booked on Xmas Eve before and got flights cheaper then. I don't think it's a priority for most people to be booking their holidays.

CottonSock · 22/08/2018 22:25

500 to 600 I reckon

ceeveebee · 22/08/2018 22:25

Look at booking on a weekday not a weekend - we flew with Jet2 on a Monday in August for £200 per person, same flights were £400 per person on a Saturday!

MadeForThis · 22/08/2018 22:33

Book on the morning the flights are released.
Martin Lewis site normally tells you when it will be. Even later that day the flights have gone up a lot.

birdladyfromhomealone · 22/08/2018 23:15

We have a villa in Spain nr Malaga and book easyjet as soon as they come out for less than £100 return

HolidayModeMum · 23/08/2018 16:31

Quite a range of prices there! I plan to book early but we can't go midweek due to the way leave is booked.

We try to book the day flights are released and can fly to lots of destinations in Europe, including Spain, for under £100 pp with ba.

Almeria is usually more expensive than the other 2 but it sometimes comes down to convenience re closest airport and flight times. If you have accommodation sorted or are booking an apartment without a set changover day you could save money by not having a full 2 weeks away so you can leave and/ or return on a weekday without causing a leave issue, e.g. leave Monday return Friday week could save you £s

We have a winter flight Bristol to Alicante £45 each return, booked on release day but that's very unusual these days.
