Tentgate!!!! Chat to me about a shop to buy a two man tent tonight after work for DD, who I may make live in it permanently

It has been a stressful week, what with #Sofucked A level results, the boss coming back from his holidays, bloody GCSEs coming out tomorrow and my very own private health issue giving me the fear - BUT amongst it all, tentgate has rumbled on.

DD needs a tent tomorrow for a campout with her friends. There was much debate about the kind of tent it had to be and the budget that she had to work with. Eventually, after much negotiation a tent was decided upon and ordered. In good time I might add!

Life is of course unpredictable and annoying, so the delivery company pretended to deliver it multiple times, endlessly texting me that I was out. I wasn't, I was at work, where the tent should have been delivered, so they were lying bastards. After 6 million phonecalls I may be exaggerating a tiny bit now I finally discover that the delivery company are indeed lying bastards, but tough luck as the fucking tent is now on its way back to the depot. I may possibly have had a massive sense of humour failure at this point and told the purveyor of said tent that I wanted one and I wanted it now and if they didn't send me one, then I'd be very upset indeed and post all over social media about my miserable experience and their lying delivery company. The tent purveyor agreed that I should indeed receive a tent and sent me one, which arrived this morning.

DD takes tent home at lunchtime, whining and moaning that it is very heavy, really very, very heavy but I wasn't sympathetic. She puts up said tent in the back garden and sends me a photo and it is not surprising it is heavy because it is for 6 people and not 2, as per the original order.

Soooooooooooooooooooooo, DD is off tomorrow and needs a two man tent, which she can actually carry and isn't three quarters of her own body weight and I need to buy said bloody tent tonight after work. I have access to all the major supermarket chains, Sports Direct and Go Outdoors. Can anyone tell me if any of them have two man tents in stock still, or are they all full of bloody Christmas trees now? I never go shopping, because I hate it so much, so I have no idea.

Two man tents half price in Tesco!

Almostfifty · 22/08/2018 15:17

Go Outdoors, they always have tents.

FairfaxAikman · 22/08/2018 15:21

Decathlon and Go Outdoors are your best bet for cheap - I got a Vango Beta 350XL for £95 out of there.
Just bear in mind two man usually means one man and their kit and always get a double skinned tent unless you like waking up damp from condensation. Tunnel types (like the aforementioned Vango) are easier to put up alone than some types.

If you have a decathlon near you, they have a great range of pop up and inflatable 2 man tents

bluerunningshoes · 22/08/2018 15:25

decathlon has good quality & cheap tents.
halfords also has some.

Twistella · 22/08/2018 15:25

Decathlon tents are Brill. You can only fit one person in a two man

BBCK · 22/08/2018 15:28

My son is off to a festival tomorrow. We bought a 2 man tent for £25 in Go Outdoors. There was also a good choice in The Range. Bought it last night.

MargoLovebutter · 22/08/2018 15:32

Thank you all. Some great suggestions here. I'll get phoning the local stores.

Don’t get one from Argos (or if you do check it's all in order first). We arrived at campsite to find parts broken and missing (this was also an emergency last minute dash).

MrsWombat · 22/08/2018 15:39

Go Outdoors is probably your best bet as it's an outdoor specialist. They will certainly have a 2 man tent in stock.

hettie · 22/08/2018 15:51

I am a seasoned camper...get to go outdoors and buy her a Vango two person tent...online they stock several Vangos (brand) so not sure which will be in store but they will definitely have one of tgem

Piffpaffpoff · 22/08/2018 15:56

Budget? Go Outdoors will be your best bet. I would go for a 3 person, always go one size up for a wee bit 3xtra room.

If it’s just for a festival, then this should do

www.gooutdoors.co.uk/freedom-trail-toco-4-tent-p360392

If there’s a chance she might use it again, it might be worth going slightly better quality. Give me a minute to look at the better tents, I’ll be back...,

MargoLovebutter · 22/08/2018 16:03

Budget is low - just something to keep her waterproof for the next few days. She's not a regular camper, it is just a trip she and her friends have set up for the bank holiday weekend.

Ok. The fab thing about go outdoors is their price match. Find something priced lower elsewhere and they will match it AND take another 10% off.

So the Vango sigma 300 is a great tent, £115 at GO, but it’s £80 at the link below so you’ll get it for £72.

Piffpaffpoff · 22/08/2018 16:05

Ah, well having read your update, just get the cheap one. No point spending much if it’s just for one trip.

MargoLovebutter · 22/08/2018 16:05

Wow, thank you Piffpaffpoff, that's a great tip.

Decathlon inCroydon had lots earlier today as I was in there buying a last minute sleeping bag for DS to take to Reading this afternoon 🙄

Bitchywaitress · 22/08/2018 16:11

Can’t help with your tent but have some Gin

FairfaxAikman · 22/08/2018 16:14

If it's one trip Tesco have a double skin two man for £40 right now

MrsWombat · 22/08/2018 16:15

Take a look at the HHH figure. Most cheap festival tents are 1500. Ideally you need 3000 to cope with the British weather.

This one would be better. www.gooutdoors.co.uk/vango-nyx-200-tent-p290354

Although if it's an actual festival she's going to and she's not planning on bring the tent back then a £20 one will be fine. (but wet)

MargoLovebutter · 22/08/2018 16:16

Tesco seem to have sold out of their 2 mans but Go Outdoors say they have plenty in store, so I'm definitely heading there. Worst case scenario, I will go to Decathlon in Croydon, but I will be crying all the way there in the car, so hopefully it won't come to that.

Bitchy I accept the gin and am looking forward to it.

Piffpaffpoff · 22/08/2018 16:17

I hardly ever pay full price at Go Outdoors - I once got over £100 off something. That was a good day.

And even if you don’t get a price match, if your children are in Scouts or cubs etc, you get 10% off by taking their neckie along. I love Go Outdoors!

MrsWombat · 22/08/2018 16:17

There is a very new Decathlon in Charlton/Greenwich in case that is closer and you are not aware of it.

MargoLovebutter · 22/08/2018 19:28

Thank you all. Got a tent in Go Outdoors and haggled for a discount too! Really appreciate the help.

G&T tastes good too! Gin
