Noisy neighbours are driving me insane

The bottom of our fairly large garden backs into the side of their garden.

18 hours per day their TV is on loudly and all rear windows and doors open. In the day I tolerate the blasting noise but at 1am it stops me from sleeping. I can actually recognise the movies they watch as I can hear the dialogue very clearly between characters. My youngest is having to sleep with a fan on to drown out the noise. I can’t use earplugs because then I can’t hear the baby monitor if it goes off in the night.

This has been going on all summer and now I’m so so tired. The other night they were arguing gone one am. I have to be up at 6.39an for work but I’m not getting sleep until about 1/1.30am

The arguments/manner of the neighbours gives me the impression that knocking on the door would only serve to encourage them to turn up the volume. This is actually making me keen for winter when they might shut their windows and doors!

What can I do?

Report to the council, they will ask you to make recordings and keep a diary of disruption etc. They will also come out on random nights to check - which if it’s a nightly occurrence they’ll definitely witness it. If they deem that it is indeed disturbing then they will take action.

Have you any neighbours that you are close to that are also disturbed? It adds momentum to your case the more complaints they get. It will be anonymous so they won’t say who exactly it is that has complained.

A family member had a similar issue with a neighbours dog barking outside all night long, turns out they’d had a number of people from surrounding streets complain and they took action - not sure exactly what they did but the dog has been kept inside mostly of a night ever since Grin
