Where to stop for day trip between london and birmingham

Does anyone have any good suggestions on where we can stop on Friday while travelling between London, near heathrow, and Birmingham. Somewhere we could spend at least 2 hours.

DCs are age 6 and 8 and love big playgrounds or areas they can run around.

Somewhere around Oxford? I'm not au fait with play areas for DC near there, but I'm sure someone with better knowledge can help.

Oxford is a pain for parking so you'd need park and ride so not really worth it for a couple of hours. Warwick (castle) or Stratford upon Avon both nice x

Warwick

Loads of NT properties and Castle etc.

Warwick castle is ££££ unless you have Merlin passes - it is fab tho.

Stratford? Pretty town, river walks, Shakespeare house and a great little museum called MAD which exhibits Mechanical Art which my ds loved.

There's the British Motor Museum

Just out of pure nosiness, why do you need a two hour stop? It’s not that far to Birmingham?

You don't know how hard I had to fight the temptation to suggest just turning back ....

How far into your journey do you want to get? Do you want it to be free or do you want to pay? How much extra travelling are you prepared to do? Do you actually need to stop? We regularly do that journey with two DC that age.
