You'd think I could figure this out myself but I can't. Nanny here all day tomorrow, what happens about food?

I have a regular childminder/babysitter person and tomorrow they've very kindly agreed to look after the DCs at my house all day, as a one off, because I have a work event I can't get out of.

What should I do about food? Should I make the DC's lunches and leave them for her to give to them? Should I leave food for her, or will she bring her lunch with her?

This is such a non-problem, but I've never had a nanny type arrangement before so I don't know what the etiquette is!

You should feed her, or at least offer and leave food for her. Packed lunches sound good unless she'll be on a trip and eating out. Let her know in advance do she knows not to bring anything unless she wants to.

You leave food for them all which she prepares. You feed her as well.

Ask her what she'd prefer you leave, for her and for the kids?

Pizza and salad. Oven chips if you're feeling fancy.

Nanny sticks them in the oven. Low faff, everyone gets fed.

I had this recently.
The problem is the informal arrangement.

Because it wasn't likely to be repeated and therefore I wasn't setting a precedent , I made the kids food that morning, when she arrived I showed her where the kids food was and showed her a couple of cartons of soup I'd left in the fridge and invited her to help herself.

Leave food for all of them. She can cook for them all

MiddlingMum · 22/08/2018 13:47

Just ask her today, then there's no problem tomorrow. But start by assuming you'll provide food for her. That's what we did when we had a full time carer here.

Okay thanks! I'll get some pizzas in. Sorted.

Last time she babysat for us I left her money for a takeaway delivery but I can't really afford that this time.
