Ex threatening court action

My ex husband gave me £2100 to pay off the finance on a recent purchase - never once was it mentioned that this was a loan and needed repaying.

We've since seperated and I've received an email stating that I agreed to pay the amount above back on a monthly basis an s because I haven't done so, the money now needs paying in 28 days of he'll start court proceedings.

What shall I do?

It's his word against yours.

If he wants to take you to court let him , pay him back a £1 a week.

That's what I thought. Thank you!

Reply stating that he told you it was a gift not a loan. Get that in writing straight off. If he goes to court he will have to produce evidence that you both agreed it was a loan. You don't have to prove that it was definitely a gift.

Presumably he has no such evidence of you agreeing to it being a loan so you are fine.
