Nice, relatively cheap maternity dresses?

I’ve bought a couple off eBay. I’m looking for decent smart casual maternity dresses. I hate jeans with a burning passion and am not a relaxed dresser so the t shirts and jumpers are just not me.

I like Seraphine but I really don’t want to pay £50+ for a dress I’m going to wear for about four months and then get rid of.

Last pregnancy I didn’t need any mat clothes, this time it’s twins so I have a bigger bump. Where do you get reasonably priced decent dresses from?

Boohoo have a big selection, from £8 for a skirt, £15-£20 for a dress. Not going to be designer quality, but are generally fine and you get a huge range of colours.

Looks great, thanks!

I buy a lot of my normal clothes from independents so was really floored with maternity clothes lol

Jojo do some lovely (comfy!) dresses.

New look, ASOS and boohoo are worth a look too :)

H&M

Thanks everyone, found a few I like and will buy.

Random question but how many maternity clothes did you find you need? I’m 19 weeks, and won’t go past 37 weeks, so I’ve got about 17 weeks maximum to wear these for. As I said I never needed them with DC1 due to a tiny bump, so I have no idea what I’m doing here!

I managed to get away with a some trousers/jeans/leggings/tights all maternity and then mostly just loose fitting tops. I bought/was given a few maternity tops close to the end and bought a dress to wear for a few special occasions and that was it really. I had a winter pregnancy so big tops/jumpers didn't seem out of place.

I got a lot of bits from Heavenly Bump - few years ago now and I can't find the website but I googled it and the clothes came up on another site. Worth a look? Also New Look.

Regarding how much you need - I would just try to buy things as and when you know you're going to need them - First pregnancy I changed from a 14 maternity to an 18 maternity (put on loads of weight as well as bump!) so didn't wear lots of things I bought to be prepared. It's amazing how little you can get away with. Second pregnancy I had about a weeks worth of clothes (3 dresses, 3 tshirts, denim shorts, jeans) and managed with those, just topping up when I needed to.

As we are moving in to cooler weather (maybe!) perhaps try maternity leggings and tunic / dresses? Debenhams; New Look; M&Co are other options.

I haven’t gained any actual weight yet, just a bump. I was like this in my first pregnancy, I seem to be all baby. I think I only gained just over a stone and then dropped back to normal within a few days, I put it down to me getting HG and being unable to eat much!

I was hoping to get away with my regular clothes but they’re too uncomfortable on my bump now. Going to buy a few dresses and see if I can make do with those. Thank you!

I had 2 pairs of jeans, 1 pair of trousers, 4 long sleeved tops, 3 t-shirts, 1 pair of shorts, 1 pair of leggings, 3 dresses.
I had a bump from December to June.

I wish I had bought dresses and tops that I could still wear for breastfeeding, as I had to buy more stuff after giving birth 🙄

Pittcuecothecookbook · 22/08/2018 08:15

Oh, and my stuff was from h&m, asos and jojo maman bebe

I liked New Look maternity clothes.

I brought 4 mat dresses which I wore with tights, boots and normal jackets/cardigans over top.

6 coloured mat vests that could be mixed and matched with 2 pairs of mat jeans, 1 maxi skirt (non-mat just stretchy), 1 pair of mat combat cropped trousers. I had one pair of mat leggings too.

That doesn't seem a lot written down but I never felt like I didn't have enough clothes and I'm one to buy lots of clothes so I feel like I over brought! Smile

BlairWaldorfsHeadband · 22/08/2018 08:26

Thanks!

So far I have two mat dresses and two dresses in a size up that I’m growing out of.

I’m thinking one skirt, three tops and three more dresses might do it. I only work 3 days so don’t need a huge wardrobe for work or anything.
