Help me find this teenager book

I was reminded of a book I read in my teens which was about a girl from London who spends time (summer?) in France. I think she works in a cafe/bar. She meets a boy and they slowly fall in love. He visits London and she returns to France I think. He ends up dying from meningitis.

But I can't remember the title of the book and it's driving me mad. Any ideas?
