First summer hols. DD 5 getting more irritable now. Is this normal?

Ok, so DD is 5 and it's our first proper summer holidays. DD has been great all hols, we've been busy and doing things a lot of the time. She hasn't had much time to be bored. This week, things are more difficult. Whining, getting upset easily etc etc.

Is this normal late on in the summer hols? I wonder if it's because they have been off so long and the novelty is wearing off.

To be fair I was ill a couple of days and we had a quiet weekend - could that be it? But yesterday we were busy all day she seemed happy.

But when she's at home it's a nightmare!! Whining, getting upset over silly things. Non stop. Doing my head in.

Thoughts welcome!

My eldest is much better when at school . I think she doesn’t cope well with the lack of structure .

Is she tired?

My 8 yr old DS is like this currently. He says he wants to go back to school and see his friends. The novelty of the holidays has worn off.

I work in education so really shouldn't say it would be better if the summer holiday was shorter, but I do think 4 weeks would work better and add a week into Christmas which is always manic and Oct half term as it's such a long term.

Watching for an answer. My 5 year old has been a nightmare all holiday. Her and 2 year old DS seem to have made it their aim to wind up us and each other as much as possible. She was exhausted by the end of term but surely she should have recovered by now? We’ve had a mix of holiday club, days out and chilled days at home. I’m counting the days until she’s back but feel guilty for not enjoying our summer.

My eldest 5YO is a bit like this this week. I do think he's getting fed up with his little brother and misses kids his own age. I'm not really friendly with any of the other mums from school, but usually find if we go to the park nearby there's someone he knows from school around he can play with. So I try to get there at least once a week.

beamur - I don't think so, I know I said we were busy but we've not lurched out the door early every day and made sure we have chill days here and there. We also had breaks away from our home whereby we've chilled out.

I do think the novelty is wearing off a bit now....

Only 2 weeks to go!

I hate to wish it away but in a way the novelty is wearing off a bit my end as well with the whining. That said we're going away next week for a few days so hopefully it will take the edge off things again....

Our summer holidays have mainly been fine. Today my 12yos turned into dicks.

Summer holidays are too long!

pleased to report today was much better. I think my exDP upset her by shouting horribly the other day. We had a debrief and a cuddle and nice day out so maybe things are moving along a bit. Excited about holiday now!!
