Is this a good age gap?

So my baby girl is 3 she will be 4 next May.

We have been trying actively for three years and no joy I do have a number of women's issues which makes conception difficult

I'm not sure if we should keep trying or to go on pill and forget it.

Like I said I'm concerned of the age gap plus I'm 42 and husband 49

What do you think

Every age gap has its benefits and drawbacks. I really don't think there is a right one, its just what works for you - or more realistically what happens for you. I was 4 when my first sister was born and we have a really close adult relationship. My next sister and brother were born when I was 12 and we also have a very close relationship, although it is a different dynamic. My husband has three brothers, all born 2 years apart, and he only gets on with one of them. It's not so much about the age gap as the personality, which no one can predict.

In terms of how it will affect you, those first four years are very demanding and require a lot of input from the parents. Your child may well be school if you were to have another one, meaning you have to start that process all over again, but equally you will be able to dedicate a lot of time to another little one while your eldest is at school (mine are less than 2 years apart and my youngest has never had a lot of attention!). It could be a really nice balance, as long as you can put up with the sleepless nights again! Plus you can easily drop and pick you little one up from school being on maternity.
