Help with controlling partner/housing benefit

So I plan on splitting with my partner. The house is rented but all in my name. I work part time and am with my 2 dds the rest of the time and before dp moved in 3 years ago I got housing benefit to help with the rent. However when he moved in this stopped due to his earning. I want him to move out however when I've tried before he's pointed out I couldn't afford to live there alone/he wouldn't help me even if he could. My question is, could I apply for housing benefit before he moved out, to start on a date in the future he will move out? Else I'm not sure I can do this Sad

Check you aren't in a universal credit full service area as you might have to apply for that. If not go to www.entitledto.co.uk and put in your circumstances without you're partner and it'll calculate what you are eligible for.

Although it seems massively overwhelming now, it'll be miles better than living with a creep who thinks he can control you

I'm sure I am eligible. I was before so can't see why not. Just wondered if I could apply for it before he moves out?

Unlikely, as how can you prove/guarantee to the HB people that he will definitely go on that date? If you make a claim on the very day he moves out, they will backdate it to the date of the claim. So you could get everything ready so you can submit it on that day.

Not sure if you can apply for it beforehand but I do know you can get it backdated I'm not sure for how long about 2 weeks or so. But assuming you applied on the day he left you wouldn't need to get it backdated. Could you not borrow the money until HB kicks in? Or even have a word with landlord. Tell them to use the deposit if need be and you will give it back once you get HB through. Good luck OP

Yes you can put a claim in up to 13 weeks before you want to claim if you know of a circumstance which is going to change and make you eligible. You will need proof he's moved out though so maybe a home visit will be requested (unannounced)

Talk to the landlord!!! That's a great idea. He is lovely.
