Toddler friendly UK minibreak

I’ve got an unexpected few days off at the beginning of September and want to take 2 year old DS away for a night or two. Here’s my criteria -

  • no more than three hours away from North Wales
  • not the middle of a city although happy to be on the outskirts
  • toddler friendly activities

He LOVES trains but it doesn’t have to be train related. It needs to be cheap and I need easy access to gluten free food, which is not always as easy as it sounds! We’ve been to Liverpool and Chester and we loved the ice cream farm and techniquest. I would ideally like an Airbnb in nice countryside because we like a walk but with a few toddler friendly places to go to as well!

Any recommendations?

South West Wales- Bluestone. Lovely cottages, swim park and lots of activities for little ones. Plus close by to loads of fab attractions like Folly Farm, Anna’s Welsh Zoo, beaches nearby if weather nice, 30 mins drive to Carmarthen, or 1hr20 to Swansea. My 2 love it!

How long would it take you to go to Thomas Land at Drayton Park? It is 2-3 year old train fan heaven. Get a Thomas themed room. It's pretty fab.

Ohhh I forgot to say we’d been there and you’re right it’s fab! I can’t believe I forgot ha. We love Tenby too so I’m gong to scout it out now!

Could you stay somewhere near the East lancs railway? Ramsbottom or Bury? There's the railway and a little transport museum. Some decent walks around Ransbottom, cinema, bowling etc in Bury and Gulliver's world is a half hour drive.

Also Ribby hall is a lovely easy break with toddlers.

We had a lovely stay at the White Hart in Leek, Staffordshire. They can adapt most of the menu to be gluten free. There's a children's menu and they provide table top toys to keep them happy! The rooms are spacious and airy and they can provide a travel cot. www.whiteharttearoom.co.uk
From the White Hart you can walk to Rudyard Lake Steam Railway www.rlsr.org It's close to Peak Wildlife Park and Poole's Cavern.
It's only a 20 minute drive to Alton Towers which has got CBeebies Land.

Those are both such lovely ideas thank you! My extended family live in ramsbottom and I can’t decide whether I like that idea or not GrinGrin
