Hi all,
Does anyone have any experience of doing a nursery apprenticeship?
Is it enjoyable?
Thanks!

Not personally, but I have met quite a few.
I think it depends entirely on the particular Nursery you are working for.
I know of Apprentices that are basically just cheap labour. That said, until you are qualified, you are at least getting the apprentice 'wage' per hour, unlike your peers at 6th forms and colleges across the country.
Others, who are placed in high quality Nurseries, will do really well through apprenticeships - much the same as in any industry, it is do dependent on the particular employer.

Thanks BackforGood!
Do you know if those people enjoy what they do?

My friends daughter did one when she left school she has a fulltime job and qualifications. I did a social care traineeship a million years ago I was a childcare assistant I think that will have been done away with now as the qualification is outdated Iloved my work though.

Honestly ? The ones I know are youngsters who didn't enjoy school.
They left at 16 and got apprenticeships in Nurseries. They really liked the apprenticeship. They liked not having to study / go to school / take lessons in subjects they struggled in / being 'school pupils' / etc. - so they liked the fact they had now 'left school' and they also liked the fact that they were getting paid. Now, in the adult world an apprenticeship wage is very small, but compared with pocket money, or no money, it is rather nice to get a wage each month. Especially when other friends have gone into 6th forme and are still at school.
Of course, longer term, several years down the line, you realise that Nursery pay is absolutely crap for the hours and responsibility you have. Many people still like working with the children, but it is difficult to live on that pay.

  1. There is an Apprenticeships board, though mainly inhabited by tumbleweed
  2. I'll send you a PM
