Why a state school would demand anything other than a logo jumper is beyond me.
Their old school allowed generic uniform. You could buy an official logo jumper/polo shirt/cardigan from the school office but if wasn't compulsory and they allowed the generic high street stuff so long as it was school uniform, had no other logos (e.g., Nike), and was the right colour. I used to buy them an official school jumper each because they're nice to have and then a few blue v-neck knitted ones from Sainsbury's because they're basically going to cover the uniform in paint/marker pens/mud so why spend loads!?
New school. Generic school uniform jumpers aren't allowed and even if they were, good luck finding a high street shop that stocks those colours (sky blue for the younger ones, bottle green for the eldest). All jumpers/cardigans/PE tops/sports socks, etc must be from the official school supplier and must have both the school logo on them and the child's first and last name embroidered above it which buggers up any plans to hand them down.
On the plus side no stationary is needed because pencil cases are banned due to loads of Smiggle based dramas last term, all children are going to be issued with an Official School Pencil Case. The tone of voice the Head uses when talking about it lets you know that it's capitalised, I'm surprised he doesn't have a trumpet fanfare each time he says it. The OSPC will contain five Official School Pens (two each blue and black, one red), five Official School Pencils, one Official School Eraser, one Official School Ruler, and one Official School Calculator. Whoop dee doo
Lunch boxes are to be as plain as possible, colours are permitted but no character merchandise and no Smiggle. Ditto backpacks. School shoes must be plain black leather or patent leather, no lights, no toggles or hidden toy compartments, and year five (age 9) onward must be slip on or lace up with no velcro (eldest gets an allowance for his under SN policy because he can't do laces).
Hair has to be best and tidy at all times. No non-standard colours, no shaved lines or patterns, no oversized bows or hairbands, and no shaved heads shorter than a number three guard. No nail varnish. No make up. One pair of stud earrings, ear lobes only.
The head teacher was new last September which is when a lot of this uniform policy was brought in, DC go to two different schools (first school and middle school) but they're run by the same management team to have the same executive head. A lot of it feels like a new manager trying to make their mark by imposing their own regime.
