I can believe how much more expensive it gets when they're in high school !
Today I purchased ( for 2 dc)
2 blazers
2 jumpers
2 PE tops
2 PE hoodies
The total was £1501

Also trousers, blouses , joggers, socks from TU including 25 off - £50

Two pairs of shoes ( black nike ) £90
That's £300 and I haven't even bought any stationary yet and the younger ones needs a new rucksack .
I miss primary school days .
Two Clark's shoes @ £30 each and everything else from Tesco , no blazers or ties and it was all generic :(

One at secondary,
Blazer
2 tank tops
3 trousers
4 shirts
Tie
Pe t-shirt
Pet shorts
Football socks
Bag

One in primary
4 sweatshirt
4 polo tops
Shoes
Pe kit
Total of £350

GONNAENo · 20/08/2018 16:08

£150 so far. My child went back today. Waiting for him to get home and see if he got told off for not having the blazer with trim. £78 pound. I've not got that after getting him jumpers, shoes, shirts etc. He didn't get a new coat either as I've put that money by towards the blazer. Coat is up his arms but school don't care about that, long as they got a blazer with green trim. State school.

EwItsAHooman · 20/08/2018 16:21

Three DC in school.

Three logo jumpers each (£10 per) - £90
Four shirts each (£10 for two) - £60
Four trousers/pinafores (£12 for two) - £72
School ties (£4 each) - £12
One logo PE shirt each (£6 per) - £18
One pair logo PE shorts each (£5 per) - £15
One PE hoodie for eldest - £20
One rugby shirt for eldest - £20
One pair logo football socks for eldest - £8

£315 so far.

I've still got to buy

  • football boots for eldest
  • trainers for eldest
  • plimsols for younger two
  • shoes x3
  • wellies/boots x3 (they do lots of activities on the field so school insist on a pair to keep at school)
  • school bags x3
  • logo PE bag x3
  • logo reading folder x3
  • logo water bottle x3
  • coats x3

Also need "neutral" socks and undies for them all as school only allow black or white underwear and socks.

Whatter · 20/08/2018 16:26

Easily £500. 3 DC.

Also have salvaged a lot from last year! The £500 is just a top up plus shoes

LeafCutterAnt · 20/08/2018 16:30

Op, you probably didn't need to buy two blazers, two pairs of school shoes and two PE hoodies

littleducks · 20/08/2018 16:31

Thank you for shoes link will be buying a pair of those. DS had a pair of black leather nike with velcro couple of years back hey dont seem to maue anymore and they were the shoes that lasted the best.

Justabadwife · 20/08/2018 16:36

For dd 9.

£50 in asda
4x skirts
1x trousers
2x cardigans
5x shirts
2x pe t-shirt and shorts
1x pe pumps

£35 in Clark's on shoes
£28 in sports direct on trainers
£20 in sports direct on a pe tracksuit

£10 Primark school bag

PaddysMarket · 20/08/2018 16:37

My schools went back today, £280 for my 2 DC's at primary school. My DS at high school would be a estimate of £150 but he didn't need a school blazer and he doesn't wear logo jumpers so that saved a bit.

Beingginger · 20/08/2018 16:43

DD is off to high school this time, I’ve spent £250 so far on uniform and I still need to buy trainers for PE, ds1&2 school has changed their uniform so I’ve had to kit them out again from scratch and I’ve spent about £250 between them and I still need to get outdoor PE kit and rucksacks for them.
I spent £163 just on shoes on Saturday Shock

badteacher · 20/08/2018 16:44

@LeafCutterAnt I'm intrigued at the comment that I didn't need to buy two blazers , hoodies and shoes for 2 dc as stated in my OP. What do you reckon they would have needed ?

OP posts:
BackInTime · 20/08/2018 16:49

Amazed at how much uniform people buy - do they really need 5 of everything if most things wash and dry pretty easily.

Sirzy · 20/08/2018 16:51

Are most of you replacing everything? Surely lots of things can do a few years?

NothingOnTellyAgain · 20/08/2018 16:53

Maybe they are supposed to go in on alternate days to make the uniform go further Grin

I am also gobsmacked

DD starting comp down the road in sept.

The PE kit has been eye water. £40 for a pair of "sports leggings" (which are skintight and then a polo on top so all their bums and groins will be in tight lycra is this supposed to be comfy for them?)

£40 for a hoodie

etc etc

It's a new set of stuff, last year I can see on the site as they still have the old stuff up, £16 for a pair of very sensible and also not skintight joggers, tenner for a hoodie etc.

I was WTAF.

Blazer £50 etc and so on.

Gileswithachainsaw · 20/08/2018 16:57

So far

2x skirt @£17 (each)

2x three pack of shirts £15 (each) m&s - approved alternative supplier.

Pe polo -£12.50 (yet to arrive)

Pe track suit top - £19

Pe skort- £13.50

Blazer -£30. Got given one or would have bought 2.

Base layer-£2.50 decathlon

Sports leggings-£10 next

Tie- £6.50

Trousers-£16.99 'not approved but hoping for best. From.a uniform.shop though

And yes one supplier nonsense at several times the price hence a back up extra skirt in the next size up. Also at £17.

Still to get- trainers, school shoes, bag, pe bag, tights ( we are talking special tights due to skin issues so more expensive ), equipment,

And of course dd2s uniform..

Anyone want a kidney?

Gileswithachainsaw · 20/08/2018 17:00

And yes that really is 51 pounds on skirts alome.

I haven't told you about the 3 lots if delivery fees I've paid either so that's about 12 pounds added on too.

NothingOnTellyAgain · 20/08/2018 17:01

I only buy when it's knackered / grown out of -

But she's off to a new school sept there's not a lot can be done about that.

School list says MUST come from approved supplier (even socks!) (John Lewis) and I don't want her getting in trouble on her first day (and then being in the daily mail sadface section with everyone on here saying "the rules is the rules you knowlingly broke them what do you expect!).

I'm not a rulebreaker anyway TBH. Not with this sort of thing. They give me a list >> I get the list.

MingeUterusMingeMingeYoni · 20/08/2018 17:02

Full uniform for each child about £30 if you exclude shoes. Primary. Our school is mostly sensible.

BrokenWing · 20/08/2018 17:03

2 trousers £30
1 jumper £45 (another jumper from last year stil fits)
6 shirts £36
Pe kit is any shorts and tshirts he already has
Jacket from last year still fits
PE trainers £75 (also used for gym)
School shoes (size 9 gents leather trainers) £100 but he paid £30 himself
Water bottles, School bag and PE bag etc - using the same ones for 3 years

£286

GONNAENo · 20/08/2018 17:03

Surely lots of things can do a few years?

My teenagers keep growing, lanky bastards.

NothingOnTellyAgain · 20/08/2018 17:03

Question for seasoned people.

Primary school I wrote on the label with a sharpie

Secondary I need the printed labels I assume - the iron on ones they won't stick with a steam iron? Needs to be a normal (hot) iron? Any way around this eg heat a saucepan base on the gas hob or something?!

itbemay · 20/08/2018 17:04

I normally go to school supplier shop for everything and last year spent over £100 this year I have bought shirts and trousers from Asda for £31 and I just need a blazer from school shop, shoes are fine from last term and pe kit still fits thankfully

EwItsAHooman · 20/08/2018 17:04

My DC really do need four shirts/pairs of trousers because they get dirty at school. The youngers ones paint, they play outside, they're in the sand or the mud kitchen, they get their sleeves in their lunch or dribble down their front, and so on. Eldest has disabilities affecting his coordination and sensory ability so while older he is also prone to spilling lunch, dipping sleeves in paint, getting muddy, falling over and getting trousers dirty. I don't want to be washing uniform all of the time, I want to be able to do one darks wash and one shirts wash and that's it done for week.

NothingOnTellyAgain · 20/08/2018 17:04

OR can I stick with the sharpie?

If they think I can afford £40 for some leggings I assume they want me to get my staff to embroider the names on though...

itbemay · 20/08/2018 17:05

@nothingontellyagain I iron without the steam and they stay fine, although this year I’m sharpie marking!
