Poo explosion, could weep.

abacucat · 20/08/2018 12:16

Just dealt with a poo explosion in the bedroom and bathroom. Cleaned it up, got DP in bath, and brought towels, rug, etc that have been affected, downstairs to wash. Need to go back upstairs now to try and get stains out of bedroom carpet after googling solutions.
Supposed to be making lunch now for DP, but can't face it. I could cry.

What’s the context? Is he ill?

TheDishRanAwayWithTheSpoon · 20/08/2018 12:18

Who has had a poo explosion? Is it really your adult partner? Why would you make lunch for someone who's just shat everywhere?

abacucat · 20/08/2018 12:19

Yes very ill. Will recover. This hasn't happened before though. I ma caring for him. He is very embarrassed and upset.

Not to punish them, just because if they had a poo explosion I wouldn't think they should be eating

abacucat · 20/08/2018 12:20

Yes its my adult partner. He still needs to eat. But good point, maybe should leave it a bit.

No food.
Just clear fluids or ice cubes for now.
What is wrong with him?
Do you need medical advice/ help?

abacucat · 20/08/2018 12:22

Basically he is taking massive painkillers that can cause constipation. So GP had prescribed medication to stop constipation happening. But was obviously too large a dose. My DP is in lots of pain. Sorry this is just a venting thread really as I can't tell anyone about this in real life.

He has kidney issues. Will recover from it. We saw GP this morning, we are in almost daily contact with surgery. I am sure will be in contact with them tomorrow anyway as he has had blood tests done on kidney function today.
I just want to run away, but obviously won't.

Put baking soda on it, let it soak up the liquid. No other way than to bag up all the powder and bin it. Repeat if needed. Once it's got the excess use 1001 stain remover. It may take a few attempts but it'll get the job done. I probably talk about them too much but for those wondering, my then puppies is why I know this. One got ill, both got ill, you can imagine.

Anotherdayanotherdollar · 20/08/2018 12:28

Dh has Crohns. Its not the most pleasant but tbh a bit of poo isn't the end of the world.

HonkyWonkWoman · 20/08/2018 12:28

Throw the rug and towels!
If you have biological washing powder, try that on the carpet to start with then treat any stain with vanish.
Sorry you're having to put up with this.
Go and get some Imodium and dose him up.
Get him to stay near to toilet.

abacucat · 20/08/2018 12:28

Thanks. Will go up and do that. Then got to go to pharmacy to get latest prescription given today.
Sorry is just a vent. We were supposed to be going on holiday before he was suddenly taken ill. Instead having to deal with this.

brownmouse · 20/08/2018 12:28

Sorry you are dealing with this.

Carpet could be claimed on insurance - tbh if likely to happen again I would replace with something easier to clean.

There may be a carers' service near you where you cousin get some emotional support yourself?

abacucat · 20/08/2018 12:29

He is in bed all the time. The poo explosion was him trying to get to toilet and spreading it on bedroom carpet and in bathroom. Bathroom is easier to deal with as at least it is wipeable.

OP posts:
abacucat · 20/08/2018 12:31

We don't have insurance for accidental damage. We have been talking about replacing the carpet anyway when we can afford to. I know its not the end of the world. Sorry I am probably over dramatising this.

Once you've sorted out the immediate situation, can I suggest you just take a few minutes for yourself? Nothing wrong with a bit of a cry either! I'm sure that you're more than capable of getting through this but life sure knows how to kick us in the teeth sometimes Flowers

HonkyWonkWoman · 20/08/2018 12:33

Lay a "path" of old sheets and towels over the carpet (once it's clean) to the loo, in case it happens again.
Good luck! Poor Dp!

abacucat · 20/08/2018 12:34

Good idea about laying a path of sheets or towels. Will do that. Thanks.

OP posts:
abacucat · 20/08/2018 12:38

I think it is affecting me more because I am so tired. Having to get up in the night to help DP. So I am permanently tired.

The poor man! And 💐 for you.

tatyr · 20/08/2018 12:39

If you are in regular contact with the GP could you ask them if the district nurse could get hold of a bedside commode /bedpan for you for the immediate time. Some areas this would be an OT/social services, but there might be some assistance they can arrange short term to help you both get through this

abacucat · 20/08/2018 12:41

Oh good suggestion, thanks.
Better go to the pharmacy to collect his medication, but I feel a bit better just venting here. Thanks.

That sounds grim for both of you OP.

With poo stained towels, bedding, pjs etc, I would try and cold soak them if you can, as poo can be a real bastard to get out (as it has protein in it and that sets with hot water), and then run a cold wash with lots of detergent, before hot washing them all.

With regard to the carpet, don't use hot water. Liberally spread bicarbonate of soda all over the affected areas and then cold water wash. Once you've done that, use carpet stain removers and just keep on cleaning until it all comes out.

If you think it is going to happen again or often, you might want to think about some of the bed mats they do for bed wetters and put them in the bed and on the floor. They have adhesive strips to help keep them in place.

Don't worry too much about preparing food for a bit. Have a cup of tea/coffee and give yourself a chance to re-group.

RatherBeRiding · 20/08/2018 12:43

Get him to wrap a towel round himself and then lie on some towels on top of a bin liner - just in case. Used to do this with the kids when little if they had explosive diarrohea. Keep towel wrapped between legs on bathroom journeys just in case he doesn't make it on time again.

adoggymama · 20/08/2018 12:50

That is absolutely disgusting. I couldn't deal with it.
