Feel weird about cleaner...

New cleaner just arrived. We've hired her to do 2 hours every other week for now until baby arrives (I'm 29 weeks) and will possibly bump this up to every week once baby is here.

Me and DP currently both work full time (45 hours + each) and just don't have time to keep our very small good se clean. Our weekends are so important to us and we don't want to spend it all cleaning!

Cleaner seems lovely. I'm a very awkward person so felt uncomfortable and worried she didn't have everything she needed (right products, tea and coffee, biscuits etc).

I don't know why, I just felt uncomfortable with the idea of paying someone else to clean my house. I've left her to it and will hopefully feel less awkward when I get back!

Anyone else find this? Seems a little vague and not sure what I'm anxious about but I just feel a bit weird about it!

Some people feel weird about it they prefer to be in for the first couple of visits so you don't feel like a stranger then leave you to it

You will get used to it. It is odd at first.

Mine is currently downstairs and Ive come back to bed as I’m feeling rubbish with a cold. Normally I go around tidying as she cleans. Or I do some sorting out of stuff or do some ironing so I don’t feel completely lazy!

She seemed absolutely lovely. I just felt bad for some reason as if I just left her to it and buggered off! But I guess that's what I'm paying her to do 🙈 part of me felt embarrassed that my house was so dirty as I just have no time to clean, part of me felt silly that I can't clean such a small house myself. Maybe I should put this down to pregnancy hormones! Who knows...

I think she’d probably be delighted if you did Hmm

Argh I'm worried I should've stayed in the house now I just didn't want to get in her way or for her to feel awkward! Why am I stressing over nothing? Think I need sleep... 🤪

Don't worry about it everyone is different I've spent the weekend on a clean where I've been scrubbing motivating them to join in playing with a puppy and joking about kidnapping the cat

Every home is different

Aprilshowersinaugust · 20/08/2018 16:31

Cleaner here! I never judge, it's busy people like you give me work!!
Stop stressing!!

Flippetydip · 20/08/2018 16:33

It's her job. I'm sure she'd much rather have you not in the house than breathing down her neck. I LOVE our cleaner - she's a rubbish cleaner but so nice to have around, the children adore her and she should actually be a child minder!

But I have exceptionally low standards so her fairly dire cleaning is better than mine so hey ho, we're all happy.

You'll love it once you get used to it and wonder how you ever managed without!

NonJeNeRegretteRien · 20/08/2018 16:35

Yeah i has a cleaner when I broke my leg, I felt genuinely weird about someone cleaning my house. I was also hyper-critical too because I didn’t have anything else to focus on!
Anyway, once you get a key holder you’ll be able to pop out and then come back to a lovely clean home. You’re right in saying your weekends are sacred.

It’ll get easier! Good luck for the rest of your pregnancy and beyond!

I have moved into a new house which wasn’t hugely clean when we moved in. Have a messy partner and toddler. Some lovely ladies have just spent nearly 3 hours blitzing it from top to bottom. They did such a good job I just feel ashamed about what a state it was in :p

Dontgiveamonkeys1350 · 20/08/2018 16:41

I will be honest and say I hate it when people are in when I clean. I get my groove on when I clean. And sing really loud to my music. Can’t do that when people are therealso feels like someone is watching over me.

Trust me. Go out. And then come home to a nice clean house. Much nicer

Dontgiveamonkeys1350 · 20/08/2018 16:42

And to those of you worried about your cleaner judging how clean ur house is.
Don’t.

I’m a cleaner. My house is a wreak as I hate cleaning my own.

And.

I love cleaning a really dirty house. Seeing it all clean after. Best feeling ever. Also nice when u get a text or something when they come home to say how wonderful it is and a thankyou.
