Any sensible advice about infant car seats? Seem to have lost all common sense!

Hi all, posting here for traffic. Plus I have forgotten everything about having a baby 😂
Due DC2 in a couple of weeks and need a car seat. DD is now 4 and we just had the maxi cosi one that went from isofix to buggy like everyone else I knew. 2hrs was the max time advised in this, all fine.

But now I have read that 30mins is the max advised time unless it is a seat which lies flat. Just googled and they are ridiculously expensive!!! Do I need to pay £££ for a flat one? For context, we will be doing some long journeys over the next few months.

Can't decide whether I am being hysterical or sensible! hormones

The lack of clear information is very frustrating. From what I've read/been told by HV the 30 minute limit is for the first 4 weeks then 2 hours after that. So at a couple months old you should be fine for 2 hours.

The 30min advice is for newborns - under 4 weeks.

Personally I think I'd stick with what you have and just make sure you stop plenty. What I've read about the lie flat seats is that they are incredibly heavy and cumbersome to use.

There is also a bit of me says it's can't be an over night "today at 28 days my baby is only safe for 30mins, tomorrow they'll be fine for 2hrs"

There has to be some sort or gradual increase but it's harder to put that into works so a blanket 28 day rule has been issued.

Thanks all! Yes I suppose we won't be going too far in the first month (I vaguely remember going to Tesco being an expedition at that stage) so I think we will just stick with what we have and adhere to the 2 hr guideline afterwards.
Thanks!
