Please help find me a house!! I have just got a job at the Freeman so would like to be in the area. Our budget is up to 250k, we don’t mind a wreck as we have previously done our house up. We need 3 bedrooms plus an area for my husband who works from home. We need a really good primary and nursery! Ofsted isn’t important more the feel of how the school is (if that makes any sense). And most importantly a swimming pool close by!!
The longest I have spent in Newcastle is the 2 hours I spent at my interview and I have no local knowledge at all. Any tips or help would greatly appreciated!!

Hi these would be good areas to look in cullercoats, tynemouth and monkseaton , whitley lodge are lovley on the coast pretty much all schools are good really look at kings priory for tynemouth , cullercosts has cullercosys primary , rockcliffe school, st marys, monkseaton has langley first school, Whitley lodge has southfield and whitley lodge first school , and you will be very close to the beach. There are swimming pools in Whitley bay and tynemouth. If you want closer to Newcastle ( so closer ) south gosforth , longbenton , jesmond are all nice - I dont know the schools so well jesmond is studenty in parts , as is heaton whuch is close aswell so obviously be aware of that. Really close yp the freeman is jesmond dene which is a gorgeous area for the children. Good luck house hunting

Check out South Gosforth, you can walk to the Freeman in 20 mins, Great transport links on the metro and good schools (I should caveat this by saying I grew up there very happily but haven't lived there for many years!)

FoodGloriousFud · 19/08/2018 20:21

I second South Gosforth, it's lovely area, close to the hospital, Jesmond Dene is close by. Tynemouth is a fab place but I wouldn't want to do the drive to/from Freeman. Heaton is also worth a look, quite studenty but some nice places to eat and the houses are big and old and not a hike from Freeman.

angelican · 19/08/2018 20:34

Oh how exciting!

Heaton or Benton are close toothed Freeman and have good schools

Example of Heaton semi in budget:

St. Julien Gardens, Newcastle Upon Tyne

HarryBlackberry · 19/08/2018 20:36

Gosforth definitely.

angelican · 19/08/2018 20:37

Leyburn Drive, Newcastle Upon Tyne

This one slightly over budget, v close to the Freeman

HarryBlackberry · 19/08/2018 20:39

Gosforth has a swimming pool and the schools are good. You're pretty close to everything.

angelican · 19/08/2018 20:43

Ok i live high Heaton.
If you are looking for 3 bed your looking around the Heaton area. Schools are good with Cragside and Benton Park all brilliant schools with outstanding ofsted reports
Gosforth is a nice area, however majority of the schools are oversubscribed, and also you won't get as much of a house for that budget as you do in Heaton. PM me if you want any more information @user1471462428

paw1977 · 19/08/2018 20:47

@angelican that house you posted is a few streets away from me , it's a really nice estate , shops near by, schools great see above, walking distance to the Freeman, close to metros, and the leisure centre is in killingworth .

user1471462428 · 19/08/2018 20:58

Wow you can get a lot of house for your money in Newcastle. Thanks so much for the links. Ideally I’d like to as close work as possible as will be working shifts and would like to be back to see the kids off to school in the morning. We will house hunting next weekend. Definitely like the idea of Heaton as Gosforth seems too pricey. Is there anywhere you’d recommend to eat in the vicinity?

Love the interior of the Kenton house but for some reason I’m swayed towards the Benton. I can just imagine loving that garden!

@user1471462428 we use Dean and Daniellas I Heaton a lot , lovely food, but I also enjoy the Naked Deli in Gosforth. Also very close to Jesmond . Also some nice places down chillingham road .

It's a lovely area, and close to the coast and town, also very near Jesmond Dene . Personally I won't be ever be moving from here , as it ticks all the boxes .

High Heaton is your best option I think . Walking distance from the Freeman.

tryingtocatchthewind · 19/08/2018 21:07

You’ll get a lot more for your money in Heston/benton than in Gosforth.

There’s a lovely cafe near the freeman called Dean and Daniella’s or something like that. Further south is chillingham road and Heston road which have a lot of nice places to eat. Gosforth and Jesmond also great for bars and food.
Killingworth pool is nice and just ten minutes up the road

tryingtocatchthewind · 19/08/2018 21:08

Paw1977 beat me to it! But at least that’s two votes for D&D’s!

Pixie2015 · 19/08/2018 21:24

Paw named some of the best bits
Lots of new houses being build around high heaton / benton.
From a quick right move search www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-66443404.html

Would you not rent first to find out what the area like and what’s going on ?

tryingtocatchthewind · 19/08/2018 21:30

That’s probably good advice Pixie

user1471462428 · 20/08/2018 11:44

Yes possibly rental is a good idea. Although I don’t want to move the kids too much. Think we will might have a mini break and spend several days just exploring the area. Feels like a slight leap in the dark!

It’s a lovely place, you’ll be fine. I know a couple of people who work at the freeman and they moan about parking so you do right to focus your search around there. It’s a great place, close to a big city, close to the coast and close to lovely countryside in Northumberland and Durham. Best of all worlds
