HELP! What are these discoloured patches on DD's skin?

We're not long back from a holiday abroad and I've just noticed these 2 little darker patches on DD's skin (aged 2). Definitely not bruises. I first noticed them a couple of days ago and they haven't faded/changed. They almost look like little birth marks only like I say, they're very new. Does anyone know what this is? Thanks.

Looks like a birth mark to me

Yep, it really does but they're new. I'm baffled.

Just looks like hyperpigmentation, brought out by the sun. I'm not a doctor though, so maybe seek the advise of one if you're really worried.

Is that something that would fade or would it be permanent do you know?

Sun marks , a little like the sun makes freckles appear on the face , it can leave marks like these on the body.
My Dss 11 had one appear on his face when he went on holiday a few weeks ago.

sofato5miles · 19/08/2018 19:16

My daughter has this, but in swirls all the way up her leg. The sun always brings it out as areas tan more than others. Nothing to worry about.

icansinga · 19/08/2018 19:17

My son has one of these. He’s almost 2 and we noticed it when we got back from Greece.
I figured it might be skin damage where we may have missed a tiny patch of factor 50 suncream?
His is still as dark a year on.

Thanks Hecticlifeanddrowning8

Would these marks just fade away or will they stay? Would sun cream prevent more from appearing?

I think I'd go to GP to be sure as it can't be diagnosed in here really.

EdHelpPls · 19/08/2018 19:20

I have this on my arms. It’s only noticeable when I have a tan as it gets much darker than the rest. I have had people assume it’s bruises.
When I haven’t any tan it is pretty much unnoticeable.

Tidypidy · 19/08/2018 19:21

My dd has a few of these. Hers are harmless nevis or cafe au lait marks, a bit like freckles. We saw a dermatologist for a different matter and she said they're nothing to worry about.

Smugpenguin · 19/08/2018 19:28

I think they look like cafe au lait marks - my daughter has been developing some recently. Apparently it's pretty normal and nothing to worry about in children. Though I was told that if they get more than 6 marks appearing, along with freckles in the underarm and genital regions, then to get it checked. No idea what it's an indicator of though! My daughter has now got 3 and one possible other one developing, so I'm just assuming all is fine til the magic number six?!

But I believe that they're very normal and totally harmless. Maybe get them checked if more appear or if you're at the GP for anything else :)
