What makes someone popular?

You know some people just have that thing? Everyone seems to love them and they just do things with ease! Why haven't I got that

I have a very popular friend who is very nice, cheerful and pretty funny. I considered her one of my closest friends but that's not really reciprocated.

Looking at what makes an unpopular person (me) I lack smalltalk and find most people pretty boring.

Linked, but certainly not the same, o know some very successful people who are absolute arseholes.
