Does anyone else's 3 year old go mad as a box of frogs if...

They haven't had a nap during the day? Dd (3.2) doesn't nap when she's at nursery all day or most days at home. Which is great because she goes straight to sleep at bedtime. But if she doesn't nap when she's at home, from about 3pm she goes mega hyper right until bedtime at 7. She starts being a bit naughty and silly and is just non-stop. It's driving me a bit nuts today! Anyone else?

No, mine too! Drives me potty

Your lucky that your 3yo still naps!
My nearly 3yo gave up her naps almost a year ago now.

From 7am - whenever she finally decides to fall asleep (anytime from 8:30 - 9pm atm) it's non stop for me!

She's really naughty at around 7pm though, witching hour maybe??

Try a physical activity? See if it focuses the energies.

Mine used to be a nightmare OP if they didn't have a nap. Overtired = loss of any self-regulation. You mess with nap time knowing you're inviting a wild beastie to possess your child!

When mine stopped having a daytime nap they needed bedtime bringing forward as they really struggled to cope otherwise.

Fatted · 19/08/2018 17:36

Neither of mine still napped at 3! Eldest stopped napping at 2.5 otherwise he was up all night. Youngest stopped napping at 18 months!

I'd recommend taking her out for a good long walk to wear her out!

Jestem · 19/08/2018 17:38

My 3 year old hadn't napped in 2 years 🤪

Comealongpond89 · 19/08/2018 17:45

Dd only naps if we've had a busy day and been places in the car. She tends to fall asleep in the car. She hasn't napped at nursery for nearly a year. It's only in the last 3 or 4 months maybe that she's been this hyper in the afternoon. I don't think doing a physical activity will help. She is literally jumping around, dancing, climbing anyway. We've been to the park today And usual Sunday stuff, shopping, drawing, puzzles, films, role play etc. Ah well nearly bedtime!

My 3yo hasn't napped since he was about 18mo. He gets completely manic about 3/3.30 - I call it the witching hour! We try and be in the park for an hour where he can be loud and silly and fast Smile

Worieddd · 20/08/2018 14:33

Yes.

My 3 year old still has to have a nap - just an hour but it does him the world of good

Gettingbackonmyfeet · 20/08/2018 14:38

Annoyingly ds2 gave up naps about 6 months ago ...except for the odd occasion without any warning that he actually needs one on a random day with no trigger and promptly resembles said box of frogs by 5pm

There should be a warning light on his head

SoyDora · 20/08/2018 14:40

Mine is 3.1 and hasn’t napped since she was 20 months. She sleeps 7-7 and just doesn’t need one, she doesn’t even sleep in the car if for example we do an hour long journey straight after lunch.
She’s knackered by bedtime but otherwise fine!
