Has anyone been here? Found a lovely cottage but don’t know the area at all.

Er, to live or for a hol? Can you say the nearest village? Think it’s not a v well known area (although lovely) (am from carlisle but left 25+ years ago)

We stayed in Langwathby for a few days a year or so ago, it was gorgeous. Lovely villages, and the Settle to Carlisle railway line passes through. Penrith is a nice town to explore too (for us, older couple).

Haven't stayed there but driven through on the way to the Lakes, which aren't far away. Appleby is a nice little town. Ruined castle at Brough.

It's really nice and not too touristy, with lots of beautiful unspoiled countryside.

Appleby is lovely, and Penrith is nice and good for food shopping.

You can get to the Lakes easily too but that's so busy. I prefer quieter places.

The cottage is in or near Ainstable. Trying to arrange a short break for our anniversary next year without telling DH ❤️
