The Sixth Sense film (contains no spoilers in OP)

Recently watched The Sixth Sense for the 1st time in many years (probably seen it 5 or 6 times in total). It's still brilliant but there is no feeling like the one when it all unfolds at the end the 1st time you watch it. I wish I could erase it and watch it for the 1st time every time.

Primal Fear is another one I feel like that about.

Got me thinking and I just wondered if anyone else has films they feel like this about, I love a twist so would like to watch a few new films to get this feeling again . . .

An old one - Angel Heart, with Mickey Rourke (and he was gorgeous in those days)

TimeIhadaNameChange · 19/08/2018 12:14

The Life of David Gale. Saw it at the cinema and spent he whole journey home unpicking it with my friend. Only other film that's warranted that much discussion was Momento.

Have just looked it up to remind myself what’s happened and yes, the ending is as good as I thought it was. Have now ordered it so I can watch it again.

DolorestheNewt · 19/08/2018 12:15

TimeIHadaNameChange I'm trying to remember if I saw the Life of David Gale, and I don't think I did. An Alan Parker film is normally good.

'Hide and Seek' with Robert de Nero....brilliant twist which I never guessed. I had to to watch it again to really get itShock

AmIthatbloodycold · 19/08/2018 12:44

Sarah, what was the twist in Dial M for Murder?

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 19/08/2018 12:50

I remember my DH watched Sixth Sense for the first time on a long haul flight. I'd seen it before. When he'd finished watching it I said something about the end reveal and he said "WHAT?" He had completely missed the twist and had to watch the film again. Grin So he never got the full effect, because I'd told him before he watched it a second time.

The Awakening with Rebecca Hall and Dominic West

You didn't ask me, but I don't think there was really a twist so much as a will he or won't he get his come-uppance. Stand ready to be corrected, but I can't remember one. Great film, though.

In A Perfect Murder, which was the modern remake with Michael Douglas, Gwyneth Paltrow and Viggo Mortensen, there was a bit of a twist around the Viggo Mortensen character and his back story, can't remember what.

Not horror but some films with good twists:

The Prestige - I swear I see something new every time
The Game - about 20 years old but still good
Stonehearst Asylum - watched this on Netflix not sure if it’s still on there

ALemonyPea · 19/08/2018 16:37

Lucky number Slevin is a good film with a twist, not really suitable for a 12 year old, but good for adults.

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 19/08/2018 16:47

Loved the twist in the orphanage even if was sad as well.

BalloonSlayer · 19/08/2018 16:51

What about books?

Fingersmith and A Kiss Before Dying are both great.

chemenger · 19/08/2018 16:53

I ruined The Sixth Sense for everyone I watched it with by guessing the twist in the first half hour and blurting it out. It seemed really obvious and I thought everyone would have guessed too. How wrong I was.

BMW6 · 19/08/2018 17:37

I thought the last few moments of The Mist were utterly shocking and mind-blowing. Brilliant.

Not a film, but the episode San Junipero in Black Mirror. I actually cried at at the ending of that. Also White Bear and Play Test. So many of them I think are really good.

Loved Shutter Island when I watched it. The Visit. A Tale Of Two Sisters.

5000KallaxHoles · 19/08/2018 18:18

Was just about to mention some of the Black Mirror episodes as being brilliant with twists (although when you like twist-spotting you can pre-empt them).

I love Unbreakable just for the visuals in it - the use of colour between the two protagonists where their scenes are all dominated by "their" colour and the scene where he walks out into the rain I just love how it's shot.

Memento had come to mind as well.

Graphista · 19/08/2018 18:24

Caroline - doing that (making people feel bloody ancient Grin) shouldn't be allowed on mn!

Chemenger - bet you were popular. My dd I love her but she's a nightmare to watch films with, talks all the way though!

Cellardoor23 · 19/08/2018 18:25

Happy Death Day.

TheHeartOfTafiti · 19/08/2018 22:12

I didn't know Sixth Sense had a twist when I went to see it (just went for a Bruce Willis fix). About 30 minutes in my H said 'have you guessed what the twist is yet?' at which point I laughed and said 'don't say it's xxxx' - of course it was xxxx which took away from the ending for me.

Arrival was a good one in terms of a film that makes you reinterpret everything you thought you'd understood about it once the coda is revealed.

JoyceDivision · 19/08/2018 22:18

Life of David Gale made me cry.

Memento...I had completely got muddled up trying to work out who could and couldn't be trusted etc and was completely lost.

Maidsrus · 19/08/2018 22:20

I liked a film called the perfect getaway for the twist - doesn’t get brill reviews though

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 19/08/2018 22:25

Dog Day Afternoon has a strange twist in the story it’s not scary though

you don’t see coming at all it’s such a surprise

Love Sixth Sense doesn’t he tell us right at the start when he explains why he wears the glasses ?

The Usual Suspects, Seven and Primal Fear are all excellent films but never enjoyed as much once you know the twist

The Others is very scary have seen it a few times and I always forget the ending I think becuase I am so scared Blush
