Delete photos on iPad but not iPhone or iCloud

My iPad storage is full but I have plenty of space on my iPhone and iCloud. How do I delete photos just off my iPad? I’ve read something about turning the photo library off and then deleting them - but when I turn it on again will it delete them from iCloud?

Have you already gone into iPad settings and checked Optimize Storage (so only low res images are on the iPad and the high res versions on iCloud)? If you still don't have space you can turn off syncing with iCloud and delete the pictures on your iPad - but this means you can't back up any new pictures as when you turn syncing back on, the deleted iPad pics will go from iCloud I think. I'm in a similar position and have gone over to google photos as I couldn't figure out a way to make iCloud save the old pics and back up the new ones. Someone more savvy may come along with a better idea though.

Yep, have got it on optimised. In hindsight I should’ve got an iPad with more storage

Also, some of the photos aren’t showing and just show a grey square - but ones I’ve taken on my phone since then are showing on the iPad as fine. Any ideas?

Anyone else have any suggestions?
