Started a new job and I'm really struggling to find my place

The new job was a bit of a gamble (it was a newly created role) and I've got that sinking feeling that it's been a new mistake.

I thought I would be more senior and have more responsibility, which hasn't materialised. I don't have a particular qualification which is stopping me from getting any extra responsibilities, even ones which I did in my last job.

I'm the only one at my rank but I don't fit in with the group of people above me or below me.

I've been there six months and I don't know where to go. I just don't like it :(

Are you hoping to improve the situation in your current job, or looking to leave and start again somewhere else? What field are you in?

I'm trying to stay vague just in case someone thinks its me.

I don't know whether it can get better or not. I had been in my old job for such a long time and I told myself it was going to take a while to settle in.

I can't do the qualification that would take me up a grade, that is for sure.
