What lunchbag does your 8 yr old have please?

Entering year 3 in September dd hasn’t needed a lunch bag yet due to free school meals so now I’m on the look out for one.

She’s not hugely girly so no unicorns or princesses but would like a child’s one rather than a standard Tupperware box style.

Would love to see what your 8 year old dds have!

Just bought the flamingo one from M&S for 8yr old DD. That's what she chose. www.marksandspencer.com/kids-flamingo-lunch-box-with-thinsulate/p/p60146516?&pdpredirect

I work in Y4, and this year lots of the girls have had Smiggle ones - this sort of style. Any with those reversable sequins are also very popular and 'cool'. There are a few with character lunchboxes, but that's mainly boys.

Thank you! I was planning on getting her one for her birthday but actually there seems to be so many different varieties that I fear I may get it wrong so I’m thinking I might have to get her to choose!

DD is only 5, but the older ones in her school (8-9yo) seem to favour Smiggle lunch boxes. DD has announced that she’d like one when she’s in “big class”

CantStandMeow · 17/08/2018 19:15

DD has a Smiggle one. Most of the girls in her class had them by the end of the year.

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 17/08/2018 21:54

Ok so I made the mistake of showing her the smiggle website and she has chosen one at the gobsmacking price of £19!!!! Shock

My 8 year old has a smiggle one shes not girly its purple with pandas on.
I did order a personalised one from funky pigeon and it was the cheapest piece of tat, lucky they agreed and are refunding me.

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 17/08/2018 22:24

I take it the smiggle ones are good quality then for that price?

Dds have Smash lunch bags. You can easily pick one up in Sainsbury’s. Lots of different designs.

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 17/08/2018 22:33

I saw the smash ones but the three she chose were a shark, football and a skeleton one Confused I wasn’t sure...maybe her friends might say something??

I have refused to get dts going into y3 a snuggle one, they're huge and I know I'll end up carrying them with the backpacks. We went to sainsburys and they've chosen a sandwich bag in two nice prints and a jo jo snack pot to go in it with their lunch. They have chillies water bottles that go on the outside of the backpack.

aperolspritzplease · 17/08/2018 23:25

And of course her friends wouldn't say something!!!

Longdistance · 18/08/2018 00:07

There’s a few here at Argos. I quite like the teal one myself. Dds have a purple star one, and pink with navy stripe.

Atalune · 18/08/2018 00:10

Sainsbury’s has very smiggle esque lunch boxes at half the price! Grin

Mine just have cute animal printed ones from Amazon - there's loads of variety including non animal too. They are about £2-3. They've had pugs, unicorns, cats and biscuit print. This year dd1 is having Simon's cat and dd2 is undecided! They tend to last about a year with regular spins in the washing machine! Then the print wears away but they are used daily including weekends and holidays.

The smiggle one just about lasted a year.. wouldn't buy another at the price which is a shame as the design is perfect. But if your dd is insistent sign up to their mailing list for 20% off your first order :) it was the seams and handle that fell apart and the inside ripped v easily.

Bubbaduck · 18/08/2018 00:21

WH Smith have a great range. DD has a thing for narwhals so of course chose one with them on and it's been the best lunch bag she's ever had, got the matching water bottle which fits perfectly inside with plenty of space for everything else, and a good sized pocket on front which I use for ice packs.

DragonCat · 18/08/2018 00:39

DS (9) has England football one from Asda

Numberonecook · 18/08/2018 00:58

Mine has a lama on the front and it says ‘no problama’ on it. She thought it was hilarious

TittyGolightly · 18/08/2018 01:08

Extendable one with double ice packs for about £11 from Costco. Functional, keeps food really fresh, fits a yumbox and Yogurt pouch. DD will be going into year 3. She’s had it since reception and it’s still going strong.

autumnkate · 18/08/2018 07:48

We got a joules one for my son going into Year 3. It seemed not too baby-ish

mrsoutnumbered · 18/08/2018 08:04

The M&S ones are great quality, I bought some last summer and they're still going strong.

Peoplemaynoticeus · 18/08/2018 08:09

Smiggle

RoseMartha · 18/08/2018 08:22

My dd used a smiggle one for two years and it still has lots of wear left. Before this we used cheaper ones and life span was max a year. I also have machine washed the smiggle one. Because she is going to secondary i bought her a plain plastic one but we will still use the smiggle one out of school.

MermaidCafe · 18/08/2018 08:29

My kids have these - cheap and cheerful lots of different prints and better for keeping icepacks/Tupperware/drinks the right way up. https://www.rexlondon.com/red-retrospot-design-lunch-bag?gclid=EAIaIQobChMI06L5In23AIVq7DtCh3r1gXLEAQYCiABEgL622DBwE
