Please help me with this insomnia hell

For the past few months I have had awful insomnia. I'm literally falling asleep at 3-4am and the alarm goes off at 6am.
I just want to cry.
I've tried no screens, not reading etc
Would a gp be able to help?
I just need to sleep Sad

No solutions, though listening to R4 on catchup relieves the boredom a bit.

Try the headspace app. There are sessions on sleep training using mindfulness but in particular some sessions on actually going to sleep. It’s helped me!

Hello
In my experience GPs will just prescribe sleeping pills which is fine in the short term but you end up worse once you come off them.
Better options:

  • get up early and do vigorous exercise in morning (difficult initially on zero sleep but will get you into a pattern)
  • give up caffeine completely (again difficult initially if you rely on it to wake you up but better in long term)
  • if you work at a computer all day, don't use screens at all when you come home
  • magnesium supplement
  • valerian
  • cool, dark, quiet room
  • listen to audio books

Try and app called "Calm" you listen to a sleep story and it takes your mind off whatever it is you are thinking about.

I struggled for a while and found the sleep hypnosis videos on YouTube quite good. Might be worth a try.

Watching with interest. I can only stay asleep now is with a good dose of valium. Its not good at all. I felt wasted this morning and that's all well and good but I have to work!
